• Bitter Hearts
    By Kiki Elizabeth Montgomery

    Bittersweet cold,
    snarls against her pale flesh.
    Purple veins,
    protrude through her neck.
    Vibrant crystal eyes,
    flutter about her surroundings.
    Black and white.
    from the sodden ground.
    To the light cloudy sky.
    Her body lies motionless,
as she stares up into the hinterland.
    She searches the lost nirvanas,
    searching for her answers.
Black tears trail down her temples,
her beating heart begins to slow.
    Why must these questions,
    remain unanswered?
    She begs.
    She prays.
    She hopes.
    She loves.
    All that remains,
are the shards of her bleeding heart.
    The eye of her mind,
slowly slips into the vast beats of a lost song.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
    She encloses her eyes,
Her body disintegrating into the Autumn.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Her worries floating out of her system.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Her prayers flying up into the heavens.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Her sorrow blowing away with the breeze.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Her lost soul decomposes into Mother Earth.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Her sodden questions escape her memory.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Her faint smile touches the heart of an angel.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
His broken wings betray him and he falls down to Earth.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Her heart beats slower, all the more slower.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
    Lost hope clouds her mind.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
He glides faster and faster to revive her damaged soul.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
    Her eyes begin to fade.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Pale blue rose petals flutter over her white body.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Straining with all the strength of his scarred body he reaches for her.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
Her hearts beats her last two beats.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
His hand brushes upon her bony hand.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
    But…
    It’s all already too late…
Pulling her frigid body into his arms,
    he holds her wishing.
Questions swarm within the embers of his mind.
    Bitter regrets,
turns to bile and taint his dry tongue.
    He throws his head back,
and cries to the heavens above.
    Silver crystal drops,
    pitters and patters the atmosphere.
He hangs his head over her body,
his tears staining her pale cheeks.
looking deep into her dull eyes,
    He leans closer.
His face is mere centimeters away from her chapped lips.
    Closing his eyes,
    he kisses her blue lips.
Wishing to bring them everlasting warmth.
    Finally pulling away,
his eyes remain closed as he takes in the searing pain of loss.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
    A slight beat takes flight,
    echoing through the crying skies.
Cold fingers began to brush against his cheek.
Leaning into the palm of her hand,
he smiles at his vivid imagination.
    Tears roll down his features,
as he basks in his mind’s eye.
    A pair of cold lips,
    brushes against his own.
    He refuses to wake up,
    Fearing the dream will disintegrate.
Bitter cold snarls at his wet cheeks,
Frost crosses his chin to his temples.
    His forlorn tears,
Freeze in place over his cold soul.
    All hope was lost,
    all faith was lost.
    A stir aroused him,
He opened his eyes to see another pair staring up at him.
    Those vibrant crystal eyes.
Yet a difference sparked in them.
A mere shine that glowed admiration on her porcelain visage.
A shine that lighted the cold embers of his heart.
A fire of passion waved throughout his body.
A rare smile crawled and strikes.
    A smile of relief.
Her lips curved slightly as well,
    mirroring his emotions.
A massive fire roared and scorched inside them,
sending a spark of electricity through their bodies.
    He made it.
    She made it.
    They made it.
    They rejoice.
    They become one.
    His broken wings become whole,
along with the shattered remains of her soul.
    She looks up at him,
    disbelief crossed her face.
But washed away with a flood of hope.
    He held out his hand,
    offering everlasting love.
    She hesitates,
and gradually settles her warm hand against his.
A wave of shock rushed through,
as they begin to lift up to the heavens.
    To their sanctuary.
    To their lost hope.
    Forever at one another’s bay.
Flying with the harmonious beat pulsing through the air.
Ay oh ay oh ay oh ay.
