A part of me died long ago,
Buried deep in Pennsylvania snow.
That brave and true and noble will
Can be found amongst us still
If people go and try to see
The beauty of those who dare to be
Better than most of us deserve.
---
Simple white stones in perfect ranks
Adorn Virginia’s hilltop flanks.
Heroes relax under noontime sun
At ease at last in Arlington,
Where those who stood and fought
For freedoms dearly bought
Can whisper words of brotherhood.
---
I want to be one of those who fight
Against the darkness and the night.
For life eternal does not appeal
If someone somewhere cannot feel
The light of hope upon their brow.
Upon my Honor this I vow.
I shall prove worthy.
