Love: why betray me?
What have I done to have you desert me?
Don’t call me untrue, unfaithful
For it is you who is the false and unfaithful to me.
For I am as an artist:
You let me find a diamond in the rough.
I worked at it
-Bit by tiring bit-
Until it gleamed when I held it to the light.
Then, Love, you let someone steal my treasure
Someone else, claims it as their own-
“Their find, their work” – taking away my credit.
Then suddenly, the diamond is free again.
But not to come back to me, no-
But to another- even more dangerous than the first
-A diamond breaker-
Strong and cold, they take the diamonds,
Play with them, and then break them into tiny pieces,
Never to be remade.
The diamond-
It gives no thanks for being perfected
This wonderful jewel-
No words of praise for the artist
Nor for their caring, loving touch
As the diamond was shaped into the stunning jewel it is today.
Just abandonment-
The only feeling the artist has ever known
From their works of mastery.
Rejection-
Of the utmost cruelty and pain.
Never to mend- never to heal
The scarred heart inside the artist.
For I am as an artist-
I smile to chase away the pain
Of losing my most precious jewel.
I laugh to hide the scars of my heart
That have been left behind.
But my pain is seen in my smile,
And laughter makes the scars bleed again.

- Title: Lost Treasure: A Lament
- Artist: singergurl17
- Description: This is a poem I had to write for English, by telling a story but without giving away everything, like a lot of inferences have to be made. I wrote this about my friend, who I care about deeply (like, possibly love) and how I feel he has made the wrong choices when I have always been there for him.
