A string sways off a table,
Catching the eye of a kitten,
But catch the string he is not able,
For he has not yet lengthened.
Still small is this young cat,
But yet he tries everything,
Jumping, pouncing, standing on a hat,
Yet still up high, the string keeps swaying,
Determined, he won’t give up,
To catch that string he now must,
Simply to prove he is no flump,
But so far he has only shook up dust.
Soon his mother comes into play,
Onto the table she easily jumps,
Waiting for him, she patiently lays,
Until to the string, he softly bumps.
The roll of string she softly pushes,
Off the table, it softly roles,
To the kitten, it quickly rushes,
And the kitten triumphantly pulls.
The ball of string is now in his paws,
Happily he plays with his new toy,
Bits and pieces locked in his jaws,
For the rest of the day, he has great joy.
