I’ve heard it said that silence is golden.
But how can that be when screams are heard
Echoing loudly through the streets?
Children cry for their mothers
While their fathers are fighting a political war.
I’ve heard it said that silence is golden.
It seems that it is red, not gold.
Men and women lie wounded and bleeding,
Praying for forgiveness and peace.
Closing their eyes for the last time,
Silent at last.
Enter the strong and the brave,
Coming to restore order and peace.
Flags flying proudly on their uniforms,
Standing for what they were to bring.
Freedom and equality for all they promise,
An end to violence and silence at last.
Years pass, progress is made,
Lives are taken while some are restored.
Flags lay on coffins waiting to be buried.
Spouses weep for lives cut short.
Those who died, died bravely,
Defending our country and helping those in need.
I’ve heard it said before that silence is golden.
But how do we know when we continue to fight,
To defend those in need,
To cause more pain and suffering?
I’ve heard it said that silence is golden.
I've heard it said that silence brings peace and calmness.
But is silence really golden?
Silence comes with an end to violence,
An end to war.
Silence is not golden,
Silence is red.
