Drumbeats in my head,
They pound through many songs:
The fast tempo of a fiery dance,
The steady beat of a soldier's march,
The slow drone of a funeral procession.
Drumbeats in my head,
They will not stop.
I see her skirt twist about her legs,
I see his armor flash in the sun,
I see their sad faces as they weep.
Drumbeats in my head,
Why will they not quit?
The dancer is always twirling,
The soldier forever marching,
The funeral guests will forever mourn.
And always the infernal pounding of
Drumbeats in my head.
