    A memory poem by -_-RainbowChopstix-_-

I remembered when I used to laugh,
When I used to be with my best friend,
    When he made me smile.

I remembered when I used to be curious,
Like the time when I first touched a cactus needle,
    When I bled.
I remembered when I used to wonder
    What’s inside of a bean’s shell,
    And would crack one open.

I remembered when I used to be
    Afraid,
When I used to go into my neighbor’s yard,
    To watch a soccer game
And would run away from the goats
    And chickens she owned.
    I remembered when I saw a
    Millipede
    And how disgusted I was
    Seeing it.
I remembered when I saw one of my neighbor’s goats
    that came into our yard,
    And how I fled inside,
    Not being followed.

    I remembered when I played
    After school
When the kids would line up along the side of the road
    As cars passed by,
Then would jump onto their trunks to be carried up the hill
And later would run back down to play again.
And how I would always run down the hill
    To our backyard
After walking back home from the store.

    I remembered when I cried
    When I got injured,
    My hero,
As well as my best friend,
Would come after me and heal my wounds.
He would always come to my rescue.

I remembered when I used to be happy
How my best friend would always buy me a treat.
And how I used to eat
    “Star Fruit”
    What I called it.
    “Star Apple”
    What others called it.
    I would eat it
And watch the game from my back yard
    Instead of my neighbors,
    Until my best friend
Put up a work of masonry in the backyard,
So the people playing the games
    Wouldn’t steal our “star fruits”
    Again.

    I remembered when I smiled,
When my best friend made a swing
    For me to play on,
And how I would come home
    From school
To eat lunch and play on the swing
And then he would take me back to school.

And I remembered how I smiled,
When at my best friend’s funeral
    That someday,
    I know,
    I will see him again.

    I remembered
    When I laughed,
    When I was curious,
    When I was afraid,
    When I played,
    And when I cried,
    when I was happy,
    And when he died,
    How I smiled,
    I remembered
    How I smiled.
