I hear an echo in the distance like a beating drum, it thumps it’s never ending tempo.
As if I were in unison, I sway to its rhythm as my ears dance with delight.
It’s a familiar sound one that I have heard once, it is like a story painted with sound.
My ears open wide to receive its pleasant words, colors are revealed.
What is this sound I hear? Could it be a steady flow of water?
Could it be the sounds of this concrete jungle?
Is it the sound of the 12 tribes of this Indian nation?
No not in this modern Savannah, this urban Serengeti.
The drum plays louder and I make another inference.
Could this sound be my heart?
Could it be the Siksika blood that runs threw my veins?
Could it be the cry of my proud ancestors?
This sound…. This sound is within me like that never ending drum, it whispers a great legacy.
My Indian and African for-fathers tell me of their great struggles and victories.
They tell me of their defeats, but they know one thing…..they never regretted a decision.
The drum it has played on forever within my heart and there it stays.
That never ending tempo and the sound of war drums.
It is my pride....
