can’t sleep
I lie in my bed.
awake.
I turn onto my side.
awake.
I bury my face in the pillow.
awake.
It's uncomfortable in the room.
I throw the covers off.
It's too bright.
Off go the lights.
And yet, here I lay.
awake.
That small silent light emanates from my computer.
breathing.
But I can't seem to
sleep.
I'm a fabric trying to fall into
dreamland
but, I've snagged on something.
Emptiness.
I long to be filled.
By the silent murmur
Of the rain
or the ocean
your silent breathing
you gentle, loving touch
No sleep for me.
I shall listen to the cicadas and the crickets
Buzz their song,
Until the dawn
When the birds sing theirs.
And when I have you.
I can sleep.
Goodnight.
