Myaiv's story from a special friend
Two pale eyes gazed up at a foreboding hollow moon, her still face staring off into the star swept night. She jolted around, startled by the crunching of tattered fall leaves. “What are you doing?” The mysterious figure inquired angrily. “Nothing.” She turned her eyes to the silent ground. “Vanessa, I’m not called Nightwing for nothing, and I tend to live up to my name, while I watch over the skies.” Vanessa sighed and spread her short, black wings and unwillingly took off into the sapphire sky. A ghost was propped up on her jet black hair and wasn’t meaningful of an evil omen who terrorized, but it was more like a friend. Her only companion in life. Down by an old lake something caught Vanessa’s sharp eyes. A girl about 13 years old was sadly tossing rocks into the silver water below. Her hair was a mellow pink and held up in a style like Vanessa’s, but her shirt had a bunny on it and she woe a dark mistress skirt with black leggings under it. Vanessa flew down beside her, and was not at all surprised by the strong look of fright on the girl’s face. Her soft blue eyes were lifeless and contained many memories. Deep dark memories of despair. Probably like mine, Vanessa thought. “Hi,” she said breaking the still. “What do you want, I have nothing,” the girl said coldly. “What do I want from you?” Vanessa repeated. “And what do you mean that you have nothing?” The girl pointed a trembling finger at a few stray boards and dying sparks, which appeared to be recently ignited. “Oh no,” Vanessa muttered. It was her fault. She had preformed a spell to find her fire within, not control it and use it to destroy! “I’m Vanessa,” she said, hoping to help the girl in any way she could. She stuck out her hand. The girl suspiciously eyes it, but shook it in the end. “I- I’m Kiti,” the girl stammered. “If there’s anything I could do,” Vanessa offered. “I’d be glad to help.” Kiti smiled warmly and let go of her new friend’s hand. The guilt started to slowly melt away. “I want to show you something,” Vanessa told Kiti. “Hold on to my hand.” Kiti firmly clutched Vanessa’s hand and began to feel herself rising off the ground. Vanessa flew her to an empty field where the last disaster had struck. A book had been thrown in the center of it, and Vanessa plodded over to it and picked it up. She leafed through the pages, and then nodded happily. “Here it is.” She conjured up a stick of charcoal and drew an X on Kiti’s neck. “What did you do,” Kiti asked fretfully. “Look.” Vanessa shoved the spell book under Kiti’s nose. “It means eternal friendship and good fortune. Close your eyes.” Kiti obeyed. Vanessa mumbled a few words under her breath, and when Kiti opened her eyes a mansion had appeared in the vast field. “Stay here,” Vanessa ordered. “And I’ll be back soon. To perform a ceremony.” Kiti nodded sadly, with a gleam of sadness in her eyes. “Ok.”
Vanessa slipped inside her house to grab some necessary items for the ritual but stopped amongst her father’s laughing. “Vanessa,” he called to her. She stopped dead in her tracks. “When will you learn not to disobey me?” He riddled. “Why?” “What did you do?!” Vanessa felt fear bubbling up inside of her. “Oh, nothing,” he said smoothly. Vanessa’s heart was beating in her mouth. “Except, oh, maybe change the wordings in the spell book a little.” Vanessa felt herself grow angry. “WHAT DID YOU DO?” Nightwing flashed her a grin. “I changed the description on the X friendship thing. What really happens is an omen follows her and grants her bad luck and all.” “What?” Vanessa didn’t wait for a reply. She turned and flew out the front door, leaving Nightwing smirking in the doorway. As soon as she reached the landing she screamed “KITI!” at the top of her lungs. Kiti bolted out of the big house and was frightened by the tense voice. She was about to ask what was wrong but never had a chance. A shadow stepped out of the darkness and lifted up a hand. Vanessa squeezed her eyes shut and heard a gunshot. The items for the ritual fell out of her hands and dropped to the ground. Vanessa felt herself even receding to the cold, unforgiving earth. Kiti was gone. Her soul waited. All that remained was the lifeless body on the freezing dirt. A shady figure flew over the moon and the other shadow ducked out of sight. Vanessa was still breathing heavily. “Nightwing,” she started. “Fly across the sky and cast your shadow over those who before dawn will die.” She sighed. “Or. Just kill me.” With those words said Vanessa slumped down into a heartless sleep.
