Nestled in Adalia's arms was a sleeping infant. She had promised him she would protect his only child, Castella. He had died to protect them from the sorcerer. She gazed at the ancient oak standing nearby; it looked strong enough to protect Castella. The infant stirred in her sleep as her mother blessed her with protection. Adalia took a deep breath, this was powerful magic, after all; she then raised her arms. Tears spilled from her eyes as the wind carried her last and only daughter away.
