The joyous laughter of children fills the air
As the Salvation Army workers ring their bells
The windows at Macy's glitter and sparkle
With the gems and jewels of the holiday season
Bountiful is that which this people have
Lavish presents are exchanged
Hugs are given and received
A warmth glows around the atmosphere
Where they have almost everything
But in the midst of all the cheer
No one notices the man on the sidewalk
Wrapped in the remains of a tattered blanket
The wind tearing at the meek scraps of fabric
He holds a can with a cardboard square
That reads, "No job, no home"
He stares with a hollow longing at the people
Rushing past him and avoiding his gaze
Where sapphire eyes will pierce their soul
And tell them that it is not always this warm
This cheerful, this invitation for holidays to come
For on this man's holiday
There are no presents
There is no cheer
There is no warmth
Only the cold wind that whips his blanket
And chills his dead, broken eyes

- Title: Broken Eyes
- Artist: Midnight Treat
- Description: My family and I always go to Chicago for Christmas to see all the the lights and decorations, and eat at the Berghoff restaurant. It's become a family tradition. =) But this year, especially, I noticed how many people there are sitting in the cold with nowhere to go, scraping up as much as they can to eat their next meal. So I decided to dedicate a poem to all those out there with no place to go on Christmas.
