• Insult to Injury

    I peer outside my window and I scowl:
    The snow has gathered on the driveway hence.
    I take my trusty shovel and I growl -
    To clear the driveway makes such perfect sense.

    "Take care when pushing snow," I'll often think,
    "And watch that you should never break your back."
    I turn and slip on ice as black as ink;
    My head collides with frozen tire track.

    My sight blurs in and out against the snow.
    I swear the neighbour's sheltie (quick to laugh)
    Is watching me as though I am a show -
    My dignity and pride are sliced in half.

    I feel a trickle melting down my neck:
    Blood, or snow - but I'm too pissed to check.
