• Snow drifts slowly down,
    Fluttering as it falls.
    There are times
    In winter snow
    That make silence seem loud.

    The quiet is deathly still.
    No birds are around.
    The soft pretty water crystals
    cascade like white puff
    down the cold gray sky.

    Warm lights line the windows,
    Welcoming people home.
    They expose the warmth
    And care that is hidden
    By the beautiful silent snow.

    Fires glow behind frosted glass,
As a cat curls up to nap.
Hot coco melts the frozen throat
    And warms the numb hands
    From a snowball fight.

Snowflakes drift gently to the ground,
Even when they are blown harshly.
    Beautiful falling snow
Piles on roads, trees, and earth
    Waiting for the moment.

    Children play and laugh,
As if not a single time is better.
They run in huge fat boots
    with stuffed mittens
    and fluffy thick coats.

    Those who can move,
    Are moving quite fast.
    Birds fly away
    Over the hibernating creatures
    Beneath the children's play.

    Spring will soon bring cheer,
    from the deadly silent snow.
The quilt of the land will disappear
    transforming crystals back to water
and replacing all that it has killed.
