Stately arranged
this windblown
fallow ground
Consecrated, cradling
cold remains
of fallen heroes
while above we walk
reverent
Quietus rows
bound in wrought iron
and populated
by the bones of the earth
Forming memories
chiseled clearly
this memorandum
written upon
hearts aching
with loss
and humble pride
Both stand together
within
chests tight
eyes bright
memories silently cherished
as remembrance
is marked
Asking not for glory
but spurning mortal fear
for purpose immutable
We question not your sacrifice
you brave few
we honor you
this day

Description:
My poem is written in dedication to Memorial and Veterans Day.
It is written in a way that I think evokes a certain detached energy, lending itself to a poem regarding loss.
I focused on expressing the mixed emotional experience of visiting a graveyard to honor those you loved and lost, or just simply respect.
I was inspired to compose something that I think is poignant and immediate, while simultaneously familiar and complementary to my writing style.

Thank you koikoie.
For the record, the rules were rather vague on exactly which holiday we could/should write about, hence, I've probably written the ONLY poem not about Christmas or New Years.
Originality counts though, so I remain optimistic.
Thanks for commenting and voting!
