• #97: Dear mother this goes out to you
    From your child
    Unheard a cry of understanding
For you to note that I am not anyone but myself

I may sew that may be true
And my brother does as well
But I do not follow his path
    Drugs are not my answer

    I may support the unions
And Joe Hill, Mother Jones, Phil Ochs, Sid Hatfield and other union heroes are mine as well
But I am not a communist
I just stand by my fellow man

    And yes I love poetry
Just as my biological father does
But that doesn’t make me him
I support the traditional family views of solidarity
I will never do as he has done

I may believe that the time for change is here
And that these politicians don’t care
And we the people must rise and take our world back
But I am not an anarchist
I have never flown the black flag

And I may support the IRA
    And scream “Up the RA!”
God knows I would gladly bear an AR-15 Armalite for Irish independence
But I am not a terrorist

    So dear mother
When I’m out of your country
And I don’t come and visit
Let it be known it is because you never knew me to start with
