Part One:
He sat there staring at me with his cold red eyes. I knew he wasn't human, that much was obvious. What I didn't understand was also obvious. Why was he here? Why did he save me? He watched me patiently and during that entire time he was silent. Could the air get any colder around me? I felt goose bumps already forming on my skin. My wet clothes weren't helping. Realization dawned on me though I already new I was losing my mind.
"Damn it! My car!" I hissed and turned to face the ocean. That was an expense I couldn't afford. Walking was going to be my life for now on. When I turned back around he was across the street and sitting on a bench, still watching. I shivered uncontrollably. The attack of the cold air around me was the only excuse I could think of though it was a lie. What caused me to shiver was that man.
Slowly, I felt my feet walking towards him. I wasn't in control anymore. I sat down next to him but all the while my mind was screaming at my feet to run. He was a monster. He wasn't human. The man smiled and it was strangely white. The shine from them was almost over powering. They were sharp and pointy. Great, I was going to be his late night snake. Forget that it's three in the morning and my roommate would be worried sick about me. I was going to die right here and right now.
But wait? Didn't he save me? Why would he kill me know? He went through all that trouble to tear off my roof and get me out.
"You are cold?" He whispered as I felt my knees bend and sat down next to him. I shivered again and he took off his thick coat. It wasn't long until it was around her shoulders and engulfing her in warmth.
"I don't understand?" I mumbled. "Why did you save me?" There was silence for a little while. He wasn't looking straight into my eyes. I knew he had a reason. He wanted something and that much was obvious.
"I sensed something strange about you and there was a strong impulse to save you. I acted on it without hesitation. I do not know why. You are not an ordinary girl."
I flinched. Was he sensing the small amount of elvish blood I had passed down from my mothers ancestors? It was unnerving to have him stare at me for so long, even if it wasn't eye to eye. "Something strange? Can you be more specific?"
"Something in your blood."
I flinched again. This time I was sure he noticed it. My hands were shaking uncontrollably. This was my idea of a fun time. "My blood? Why would that change anything?" I was sure he was a demon but something about him wasn't right. He didn't seem entirely so. Was he a half demon?
"Blood changes everything." He said in a dangerous tone that seemed to show how deadly he could be. "You might be useful to me. A useful weapon, though a week mortal nonetheless, and that doesn't say much. I could have allowed you to drown."
My eyes widened in fear. "What are you?" I found myself whispering in a frightened voice. "Who are you?" The questions didn't seem as trivial to the thought now overtaking every impulse in my brain. Run, it stated quiet forcefully. My body wouldn't move.
"My name is Reu and I am a demon feared by many. I despise mortals." His claws looked dangerous enough and I wasn't going to question him. His voice was even, level, and yet it was filled with a undescribed coldness.
When I found control of my legs again I got up and ran. He wasn't following which I thanked God for. If it wasn't enough trouble already to have him near. My heart raced and I felt sick to my stomach. That thing had no remorse. He didn't care about the lives of others, yet he saved mine. I was so confused. The thoughts in my head didn't help me as I rounded another street corner. I was only blocks away from my dorm yet it seemed so far. I couldn't breathe and before I could take another step forward I felt myself crashing down to the cold concrete ground. That was when I passed out and allowed the thickness of the darkness take in my troubled body and soul.
