• Chapter 47
    Absolutely Beautiful
Mauve sat quietly on the golden chair resting her cheek on her hand, the other tracing her finger over the red velvet.
“Lady Mauve,” she looked up, her red eyes filled with melancholy. This wasn’t what she wanted. Why did it have to be her?
“Yes, William.” She voice dragged across the large almost empty room. She wished it was empty. So that she could be alone in her pain.
“I have something important you must now.”
She lethargically sat up strait and smoothed out the heavy black lacy dress that hugged her too tightly at her already small waist, but it didn’t bother her one bit. She cleared her throat, “Well then, what is it?”
“It’s Edan. He with a human he can’t be trusted!”
Edan can’t be trusted, she thought. He was such quiet boy, he never talked much at all, always too caught up in what was. But he understood how she felt. He was the only one. “And what do you mean by that?”
“I found him in the woods with a human! I was lead to believe that he was planning on killing her! And he was obviously losing control…. His eyes are…. fading.” Fading eyes. The sign of starvation. Losing whatever human side you had.
“I see,” Mauve breathed heavily, feeling the rust on her breath and depression in her words.
“I’m positive that the girl knows our secret, which is against the rules! You know what the punishment is for breaking the rules!”
It was against the rules, killing humans without trying to save their life, and letting out the secret of their existence. The punishment was death. Instant death. She would have to kill him herself if this all appeared to be true. She couldn’t let someone go just because they were, different.
Edan was different from others of their kind. He proved something. All vampires weren’t sentenced to Hell. They weren’t all damned. They had a chance at Heaven. They had good in them. Because of him, she didn’t feel completely like a monster.
She just couldn’t bear to kill him. She just couldn’t.
    “Lady Mauve?”
“Oh sorry William, yes I will call him and the human to the council.”
“The human girl as well? Are you sure about that Lady Mauve?”
She sighed heavily, “We will need to work something out in order to keep the secret safe. We must make sure that the girl does not tell anyone else.”
“We could just kill the human. Or change her into one of us.”
“Nonsense!” She could never do that, take away a human’s life and soul for their own needs, it was pitiful. “That would go against our morals and rules. Never take a human of their life and soul unless you are to save it.”
“I understand. When shall I retrieve them?”
“No!” she quickly realized her sudden outburst, “I will call them myself.”
“But my Lady, you are not supposed to leave the castle!”
“I will send my guards to retrieve them and bring them to the council meeting.”
“Yes my Lady.” William held his arm over his chest bowing his head and walked out of the room, hiding the smirk that stretched across his face.
Mauve slouched back down, hiding her face in her hands. What have I done? There will be no way around this; I will have to kill him. Kill him with my own two hands. See the look in his eyes. And then the human girl, the frightened look in her mortal eyes, possibly even tears.
There was nothing she could do for Edan, but the human. She could protect the human, keep her safe and out of harm’s way. The little human girl would be safe and forever under her protection. This girl would never see harm, ever.
She stood up adjusting the plentiful layers of her large gown. She moved over to the large stain glass window, and unhitched the latch. Sunlight beamed down on to the floor as she jumped out of its way. She wasn’t allowed to touch the luminous light by the council’s orders. They were afraid that she would burn in its pure goodness.
Just like her parents had. Because of them she could never smell fresh air or feel thick grass in her fingers.
It was all because they broke the Lord’s promise. Her mother Lilith was truly the first woman, the woman really created for Adam, but she rejected him and was banished by the Lord. Wandering about she was located by the Lord’s angels and was supposed to be returned to Adam. But instead they made a deal.
    The Deal Was
That she could kill any child if they were not given a name in a certain amount of time.
Seven days for girls and eight days for boys.
Unless a prayer had been said over their resting place.
Praying the names of the angels.

Many years later she found her father, Cain, who had been marked by the Lord. She showed him something. She showed him the power of drinking human blood.
Mauve hated how everyone believed she was a true monster. The offspring of two terrible monsters. A woman who killed children for their blood. And a man who killed his brother out of envy.
    She wasn’t a monster.
Mauve mustered up her courage, and slipped her pale slender hand into the daylight. The light shown off her pallid skin, warming the eternal cold she possessed. She held the breath she didn’t need taking another step, and yet another step, until she was completely indulged in the illumination. The wind whipped her unnatural hair, that when compared to even the finest gold, shown brighter silkier and deeper in the amazing color. Her ruby eyes sparkled with the force of a billion stars. Absolutely beautiful.
The air was intoxicating. The light burned her eyes, but she didn’t care at all. It was all too human. The one experience she couldn’t have and would never have. And would never have. It was absolutely beautiful.
