• Chapter Five

    Outside Paradijs Weile school

Kali sat in the carriage with her sister squeezing her hand nervously. She remembers waking up before everyone getting herself ready. She was packing her gowns, when she found the note next to the staff and medallion on the chair. Kali opened the letter and read:

    Dear Kali,
I know this will be the last time we see each other again. I watched you use magic in front of everybody. I can't get the image of Juaquin screaming like a little girl…

Kali laughed remember seeing how Juaquin’s green star eyes almost popped out with fright. She continue to read,

I was at my village market when I saw the staff; I thought you would like it. I went to my workshop to make you the medallion. The stone is a Semeraldo. It stands to say that where ever you are your friends and family are here for you. I will not know what will happen, but I must stay home. Staying out of trouble is hard, but I will do my best I promise. I hope we meet again, some day.

    With
    Gods Love,
    Drako Drache

Kali folded the letter back up wiping a tear from her cheek. She placed the letter in her hackie sack. Trying hard not to cry, Kali turn to see Annabel still asleep. She heard them arguing to one another. It was mostly about her. Kali remembered falling asleep hearing the door open as Annabel cry herself to slumber. Kali looked out the carriage window watching the mayor speak to the headmaster of the school. She sighed wondering what horrible things he was saying. Annabel noticed her sister watching her father. She grasped Kali’s fingers as she spoke, “Now you listening well my sister, it doesn’t matter if you choose to do what they say or ignore them you are always welcome to live with me someday and that I will always love you.” Annabel watched as a blue tear drop slid down Kali’s cheek. “Oh, Annabel, I’ll do anything to live with you,” Kali’s voice quivered. They both hugged each other for a long time. Kali could hear the mayor walking to the carriage. She knew it was time to leave. Giving one last look to her sister, Kali stepped out of the carriage, grabbed her stuff and followed the headmaster inside.

    The Headmaster’s office

Gregonean sat in one of the chairs, while Kali stood near the door. Standing there made her gown crinkle up. She straightens out her blue gown with a green lighting on one side of her chest. The lighting bolt ended at the other side of her hip. Holding her staff in her right hand, the headmaster spoke, “I see you have a staff, which would be great for the fireplace.” He looked up at her as if she wasn’t listening. Gregonean twisted as he too saw the staff. The staff top had a curve mental with a floating sphere. Kali knew that the staff changes color to warn of any danger. There were two spelled carve on the wood part of the staff. Kali never heard of it, but knew what it said. She gripped the staff as she spoke, “Excuse me Headmaster, but I can assure you that I only use this staff for hiking,” She did not added that it would be a remembering of her family and friend. The headmaster lifted his eyebrow with a questionable look, before shaking it off. “I am sure of that, but I will let this pass, just make sure I don’t catch you using it with magic.” After talking to the mayor, he sent him on his way as he gesture Kali to sit. The headmaster passes Kali some paperwork, a packet, a schedule of her classes, and a key. He cleared his throat before speaking, “the paperwork I give you must be signed and return to me in two days. Also the packet is the notes from class and some worksheets to get you started. The schedule show where your class is and what kind of subjects you will be learning. This is your room key; you will be sharing a room with another student. If you happening to lose this key, you will not get a replacement for it. Am I clear?” Kali nodded as she looked at all her classes. She thought of Annabel and how hard she will work for her.

    Paradijs hallway

She let out another sigh as one of the students ran into her again. Rubbing her shoulder, looking for her room, Kali spotted room #752 written on plate of the door. Inserting her key, she slowly opened it. Inside she found something just like her room but double, there was two of everything. There were two of bed, desk and wardrobes. Expect one of each was already taking. At one of the desk, Kali found a girl sleeping on top of some papers with her eyes shut. She was sleeping. Very silently, Kali went to the wardrobe placing all her gowns away. With everything put in the right order, Kali walked to the window looking out to her surroundings. The school was four building high with a chiming on top of the roof. She slept on the second floor with her roommate. Kali watched as the birds flew in many directions to get to the nearest tree they could find. Looking down to the ground, the school fence came in her view. Kali frown at what she thought of the fence. The headmaster said that many of the people would have us killed than giving a second chance. The fence was there only to protect us. Kali thought of the fence as a way to keep her inside. It felt like a wild cat lock up in a cage. A prisoner was more like it. She removed thought out of her mind, when she herd a rustle sound from behind. She turns to see the girl from the desk lift her head from slumber. A paper stuck to her cheek with a drool on her bottom of her lip. Removing the paper from her cheek, she twisted to see Kali at the window. Kali smiled nervously as the girl smiled happily to her. “Welcome, roommate we’re going to be great friends,” Kali smiled as she thought that this was going to easier than she thought.

    In Annabel’s room

She sat there at the window still looking at the stars. Katharine sent food up to Annabel to eat, but she shoved it to the side not touching it. It sat there all day getting can by the minute. Annabel stays in her room all day avoiding her father. When Surhomme came to visit her, she only allowed Surhomme to see her. Annabel sat there thinking of her only sister she has.
She watched as shooting stars cross the night sky. “I hope Kali is seeing this from her window.” Annabel spoke to herself quietly. She walked to her bed and lifted the mattress. Under it was a passion red book with designs written on it. It was Kali’s memory book. Annabel asked her at age four to do this for the reason Annabel was giving her a new memory.
Kali wrote this all into her memory book. After she was done, she erased all her memory from the day in her mother’s womb to the age of three. Annabel never read it or even sees how many pages of memory Kali had. She opened on the book on the first page. The handwriting was clear. Taking on a sigh she started to read:

“Annabel asked me to write what I remember in this little book. I love her so much that I will do anything for her.
    -Kali Nishikawa.”

With a smile, she turned the page and read some more:

“What I remember about my mommy... She said it was the right thing to do for everyone even the little girl in the window. She also said I will be her new generation, and I will protect the Magische Menschen.”

Annabel sat up as she reread that sentence again. Katrina never said that to Kali when she was young. She remembers had she said that one day Kali would be a great healer.

“She wanted that little girl to be happy to have me. Mommy said I will pass her love and magic to the other children. She heard the girl pray to God to have a little sister to protect and love. She gave her wish as a token of her love. Everybody loved mommy until she disappeared. She was great to me, she was my De Magie.”

Annabel froze on the last sentence. She never knew that De Magie was Kali’s mother and gave Annabel, her daughter. Annabel continues reading the book until she came to the last page of the book. She sat on the bed finally releasing her tears. Annabel now wishes she left Kali’s memories with her. She prayed to God for forgiveness and to watch over her little sister.
