He followed his father through the trees, he lived really close to the forest, I stumbled over my feet a few times, but Shade caught me every time. Upon approaching his house I saw a black corvette shimmering in the moonlight. “Umm, Shade how many people did you invite,” I asked staring at the black corvette. “Well let’s see, I invited Chase, Cody, Heather and Jessica, the black corvette belongs to Cody.” Well at least I know two people here. When we walked through the door I saw Heather sitting on the black leather couch, her brunette hair shaping the side of her face and her piercing green eyes glaring at me. Next to her was Jessica, in her good mood as always, I sat next to her and she gave me a wide smile. The two boys on the floor must have been Chase and Cody but I couldn’t tell which one from the other. “I’ll go get you a wrap Cryss,” Shade walked down the hallway and Jessica noticed my wrist that was bleeding lightly now. “What happened?” she asked me carefully picking up my hand and examining the injury. Didn’t want to worry her much so I lied, “I hit it against a rock.” “She got bit actually, by a dog.” Shade said as he sat next to me and carefully wrapped my wrist. I glared up at him and all he did was smile, my anger melted away and I looked down at the floor. “So your dad’s going to take us to the beach Shade.” Heather asked. “Yea we decided to go to there for the bonfire instead,” when he was finished wrapping my wrist he kissed it and ruffled my hair. “Chase, Cody, this is Crysstal,” he pointed out which one was which for me, the one with brown hair that went to his shoulder was Cody and the one with short spiky black hair was Chase. “So did we figure out who’s in a group?” Jessica asked in a cheery voice. “Well let’s see I guess Chase, Cody and Heather and then Me, Jessica and Cryss.” I jumped a bit at the sound of my name. “Umm, that’s fine with me and all, but can I ride with Cody, well if he doesn’t mind.” Cody gave me a puzzled look then laughed. “Sure I don’t mind, if Shade doesn’t mind me taking you,” I saw Shade glare at him then looked back at me. “I’m not so sure you should go with him Cryss.” I rolled my eyes and shook my head. “I don’t need to be taken care like a little kid, I can handle myself.”

When we all packed our things we headed for the cars. Shade, Heather Jessica and Chase went to the crimson red suburban while Cody and me went to his corvette. “Is they’re a certain reason you wanted to go with me?” he asked me as we got in. “I’ll tell you later okay.” He gave me an agreeing nod and followed the suburban. “I noticed Heather was glaring at you, is there a reason she would do that?” I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, rubbing my temples. “I don’t know why he even invited her, he only knew her for one day and suddenly she’s important.” I laid my head against the car window. “Well now she can’t be as important as you.” He chuckled and nudged my shoulder. “What do you mean by that?” he laughed even harder. “You haven’t noticed yet have you.” I looked at him with a puzzled look. “Look Shade and me are like family, I knew him for a long time and he tells me a lot of things, he says some really good things about you.” I tried to put together what he was saying. “He really likes you Crysstal, he’s just afraid to tell you.” My heart pounded against my chest and my breathing got a bit heavier. “But what about Heather, I mean I thought he liked her, that’s why I decided to go with you, because I thought it would be awkward to be with Shade and Heather in the same car.” He ruffled up my hair, seems like everyone likes to do that to me. “You seemed fine in the house, what makes a car different?” I gave him a small punch in the shoulder. “Why do you think I didn’t talk till now, I didn’t want to say anything that might set Heather off.” “Set her off? What do you mean by that, it’s not like she’s going to hurt you or anything.” I scoffed and stared out the windshield. “With the glare she’s giving me, it looks like she’s going to sooner or later.” I noticed his speed was over a hundred, but the ride was smooth and he seemed to know what he was doing. “Your going a little fast, you better slow down before a cop sees you.” I saw the needle drop down to seventy-five. “Happy?” I rolled my eyes and flipped on the radio. “Don’t worry so much.” I flipped through the stations till I found a good rock song to block him out; he rolled his eyes and turned to the road.

We stopped at a gas station for snacks, gas and bathroom breaks. I stayed outside; I didn’t need anything at the moment. “How was your ride with Cody?” I turned around and Heather was standing behind me. “Umm, it was okay.” I didn’t need this, not now at least. “Well me and Shade had a wonderful drive so far, he even kissed me on the cheek, isn’t that sweet of him.” My breathing stopped and I looked at the ground. “Well that’s good.” I trudged off to Cody’s car. “I just hope he doesn’t end up turning on you.” A growl formed in the base of my throat but I kept moving. I kept my head down until I hit something or someone. “Hey Crysstal.” His voice was the one I wanted to hear, but not right now. I pushed him aside and got in Cody’s car. “All set?” Cody asked. “Yea I’m fine.” My voice was irritated and the growl was still there. “You okay?” I bit my lower lip and shook my head. “No I’m not okay, she’s going to take him from me.” He placed his hand on my shoulder. “He won’t be won over that easily Cryss, don’t worry so much.”
