A small girl screamed in her mothers arms as she was lead away from a small strangely shaped box in the front of a room. All around her she heard the sobs of women, men, and other children, but they're older than her. "Mommy! Why can't I see him?!" She cried out at her mother who was broken down in a fit of tears. "Why is everybody sad? He's right there!" She said as she struggled once more. Being so young, she just couldn't understand the situation. She couldn't understand why she couldn't see her best friend. Why he wouldn't just wake up and run and hug her like he always did. She could see that even his brother was in tears. 'Why?' She thought. He's only sleeping. She managed to struggle away from her mother's arms and run to the large, strangely shaped box and look at him. "Hey! Kaim! Wake up!" She called to him, but his now pale face did not so much as twitch. She reached to touch his shoulder gently, and he was freezing cold. "Kaim! Don't you want to play with me?" She asked, and her vision was suddenly gone. She struggled again as her mother pulled her away. "Mommy! I want to play with him! Make him wake up!" She cried as she looked up at her mother with small tears in her eyes. At those words both her mother and the mother of her best friend started to cry again. He mother bent down to hug her as she spoke. "He's not waking up Cassy. He can't play any more now." Cassy's eyes widened as she looked up. "Why? He doesn't like me any more? Why?" Her mother sobbed before she said those two words that broke the little child's heart forever. "He's dead, Cassy" The little girl shook her head in disbelief as she tried to run to the box. "No! He's not! He's not dead!" She screamed through her sobs the collapsed into her mother's arms. "He can't be." She mumbled again as she cried.
A tall girl smiled slightly as she stepped out of her small one-story house. She lived there with her single mother. She walked at her own pace as she headed down her driveway towards the main street of the small neighborhood she resided in. Her smile immediately disappeared as she spotted the one this that haunted her memories. That house. The red one across the street with the white fence that had a loose board just big enough for two small children to crawl through. Her breathe caught in her throat as it did whenever she looked at this house. The now empty house. The people who live in it moved away long ago. Right after their son died. Her best friend. She smiled a small, sad smile as she raised a hand to a small locket that hung around her neck. She walked across the road and smiled again. She could almost see him and a younger her, running across the lawn in a fast game of tag. She let a small tear fall down her cheek as she peered at the picture of two children. Under it read: 'Kaim ♥ Cassy' She looked up one last time and smiled at the house, and at him.
