My Bleeding Heart 2
Just the same as my previous, but now it's version 2.0. Entries vary from updates on my life to whatever my drawing has ranged from to occasional writings.
And here's writing prompt number two! Decided to go with a silly story this time:

As you try to fall asleep, the monster that was hiding under your bed slowly crawls out and says
“Dude, I think I heard something coming from downstairs…” with a slightly concerned voice

Sounds In The Night

As you try to fall asleep, the monster that was hiding under your bed slowly crawls out and says
“Dude, I think I heard something coming from downstairs…” with a slightly concerned voice.

You begrudgingly got out of bed, putting on a shirt and looking through your nightstand for a flashlight. The monster under your bed, named Larry, was nothing like what you’d expect a monster to be, at least in terms of personality. Sure, he looked terrifying enough, but he was such a wuss that there was no way he’d ever scare anyone. Even when you were a child, you ended up scaring him instead of the other way around. You became friends and had been together ever since. However, you had grown tired of him constantly ruining your sleep by complaining about sounds that usually were just a stray cat or the wind.

“Larry, this is the last time I’m doing this for you. I’ve had so many sleepless nights because of you and this needs to stop. You’re coming with me and you’ll see that there’s nothing to be afraid of!”

“But what if it’s a monster? What if it wants to eat us?”, he groaned, pulling the rest of his body out from under the bed.

“For goodness’ sake, Larry, I highly doubt that another monster would come into my house. I’ve got enough on my hands dealing with you! Now, come on.”

Larry let out a whimper and followed you closely behind, holding his tail in his hands. You turned on the flashlight and made your way out of your room, checking the hallway first. Not seeing anything out of the ordinary, you signaled to Larry to follow you and resumed making your way through the house. You checked the bathroom, but didn’t find anything that could have been the culprit. Suddenly, you heard a yelp and turned around, seeing that Larry had tripped on himself and landed face first. He groaned and raised himself up, dusting himself off and laughing to himself. You glared at him as he did so and he shut up.

You then checked the downstairs family room, again not finding anything that could have caused the sound. Larry was right behind you, inspecting the photos on the table in the middle of the room. He was always so amused by the happenings in your life, as mundane as they were. Reunions with friends, college, work, even your love life seemed to peak his interest. It always seemed dull to you, but he rarely spoke much about how monsters lived. You often would try to get him to talk about it to no avail. All of a sudden, you heard something fall in the kitchen. You knew the only two living things in that apartment were you and Larry, so it surprised you as much as it did Larry.

“Hush, Larry… Looks like something’s in the kitchen…” you whispered, looking around the room to see if there was anything you could defend yourself with. You grabbed a heavy book, seeing as there was really nothing else. You couldn’t expect Larry to protect you, let alone himself, so you tip toed toward the kitchen, flashlight in one hand and book in the other. Larry tagged along despite being terrified and shivering from how scared he was. There was another sound of something falling on the floor and you shined your light towards the direction it had come from. You thought you heard crunching and raised the light little by little. You gasped, realizing that indeed, it was another monster. It seemed to be a bit taller than Larry and had more spikes along the back. You yelled and were about to throw the book at it when Larry dashed past you the moment the other monster turned to face you.

“Oh my goodness, Pete, is that you?” Larry squealed in delight as he approached the other monster.

“Larry, it’s been so long! Yes, it’s me, Pete!” the monster replied in delight, opening his arms and giving Larry a big hug. You stood there, confused as to what was going on. Who was he? How did Larry know this monster? And why in the world was it in your home?

“Excuse me, gentlemen, but who the hell are you?” you yelled, shining the flashlight on both of them and still holding on the book.

“Jake, this is Pete, my brother! No need to hurt him, he’s not dangerous.” Larry answered, pulling away from the hug and standing between you and Pete, “Though, Jake is right. What ARE you doing here, Pete? I thought everything was going well with your human family.”

“Oh, it was, but they had to move and the new place had such a horrible climate! You know how I can’t stand the cold.” Pete said nonchalantly, his tail whipping back and forth, “As much as it pained me to go, I really had no choice. So I thought I’d come live with you and Jake instead!”

“Of course, Pete! I’d love it if you lived here with Jake and me! It was starting to get a bit boring with just the two of us and with you here, why, it would be-“

“Wait, wait, wait. Hold on a second. Larry, you can’t just go around deciding for me who comes to live with us!” you yelled, putting the book down, “Just because he’s your brother doesn’t mean he can stay.”

Larry’s ears sagged, a habit he had whenever he was sad or upset. He looked at you, eyes all wide like a cat’s whenever it begged for attention or food. Damn it, Larry…you thought to yourself. He knew just how to get you to go along with his shenanigans and that stare always won you over. Despite being an adult now, there was no way to refuse that face. You sighed and crossed your arms, looking at them.

“Alright, fine, he can stay. But he better not make a mess of things and behave himself. Understood?”

“Yes, yes, Jake, I promise I’ll be good!” Pete replied, grin full of razor sharp teeth. Larry smiled with him and from then on, Pete slept in your closet while leaving Larry to his spot under the bed. At least your life wouldn’t be as uneventful anymore, now that you had two monsters living with you.
