As an unregistered animagus I have quite a bit more fun than most. It is easy, you see, for me to play tricks on people without them expecting a thing. And what’s even better is that not only does Mrs. Norris dislike me, but she’s also scared of me, which means I have zero problems with running into Filch if I am out late. Then again I would be scared of me too if I saw a strange black cat appear directly where a student was standing just a moment ago in the middle of a dark corridor after hours. Even more so if that black cat chased after me! Serves her right for trying to get me into trouble.
Though I think the most fun I have is making Peeves' pranks backfire on him. He never expects it! For example the other day Peeves had a rather large number of Weasley’s Wizard Weezes fireworks piled up outside the Great Hall Just waiting for dinner to end and for the students to open the doors and start leaving from dinner. I just so happened to be running late to dinner that evening and saw what he was up to, so I quickly dodged back around the corner and transformed in to my feline animagus. Stalking over to where Peeves was knelt down next to the wicks of the fireworks I pounced, screeching as I feel through his poltergeist form.
Peeves, now thoroughly startled, dropped the match he was holding and was desperately gathering up the fireworks I had knocked over in the commotion. He didn’t even notice when I struck the match on the stone floor and lit one of the firework wicks. In a few short seconds time all the fireworks was going off right in his face. Some soared through his head to burst against the wall, others exploded through his chest, and some bounced off the doors to the Great Hall all in a multi-colored show of light. All the students and professors were highly amused that night and no one expected it was me. After all a black cat couldn’t have possibly done a thing now could it?
While I’m here at Hogwarts causing some mischief among the ghosts and even professors is, to me, quite a good use of my unregistered animagus form. And that is good enough for me.
