heart Howdy, Gaians! This is your favorite crazy person dropping in for a hello again! Today's topic of discussion-- One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez(does anyone know how to make the little accent marks on the letters?). A 458 page book that I finally finished!!!!!!! Which since I started Saturday last week and today is Thursday isn't that bad of a reading time, but the fact that I've been on the last 50 pages for the last three days has been extremely frustrating.
heart The book itself was fab-u-lous though. It was, once again, magical realism and as such reality was a hard thing to grasp while reading it, but its got so much beautiful story telling in it. The book can become difficult and confusing at parts. For example, there is 22 people in this book named Aureliano and there all related too. You can tell that I'm contemplating not ever letting any of my children have names where even the first letter is the same, can't you? The teacher that recommend the book to me described it as being "the entire history of Latin America crammed into one book." I describe it as being a really long book with overtones of Latin American history and culture sprinkled throughout it while being manufactured in a Meth house.
heart But all joking aside, I do highly applaud the book as a great literary work and recommend that anyone who knows anything about Latin America read it. Though I do truly recommend having a knowledge of Latin America, particularly Mexico, before undertaking the reading of this book. As wonderful as it is, it's not an easy read and has a large amount of things happening in it. A basic history will help make sure that you don't miss too many things.
