Chapter 4
Katherine tossed and turned in her sleep. Suddenly, she shot out of it. She took a deep breath, wiping her forehead. Relax. Just a damn dream. Though one I wish was real. Professor Elric really is hot...But I'm his student. Trouble could come out of...that. Katherine opened a curtain and slid out of bed. According to the window, it was still early in the day. The sun wasn't even out yet. So, Katherine went to her trunk and pulled out some clothes: her favorite jeans, a black t-shirt, and the overused red coat a friend had given her. She sluggishly went into the bathroom. Since she hadn't been able to take a bath last night, one this morning might wake her up. Pulling her pajamas off, Katherine slipped into the tub. Swimming over to the knobs, she turned the one that emitted vanilla essence. Once the soothing smell filled the room, Katherine shut off the faucet and sank int othe water, closing her eyes. As she relaxed, flashing of her dream flew across her eyelids. She tried to think of something else, but it kept returning. Why fight it? It wasn't like it was a bad dream, like her killing him or something. Katherine resurfaced and proceeded to wash her hair. I must be going bonkers. I'm daydreaming over my professor! He looks young though. Wonder how old he is...

Feeling semi-human, Katherin died off and pulled her clothes on, then made her way to the common room. Sadly, she was the only one up, making the room seem larger than normal. Not wanting to stay in an empty room, adding to the fact that she was hungry, Katherine headed to the Great Hall. That too was empty, allowing Katherine to snag a seat at the Slytherin table by a fireplace. Why did England have to be soo cold in September? Her black thoughts about English weather was interrupted as food appeared in front of her. Katherine piled her plate high with food and started eating. She was so engrossed in making her way through the food that she didn't notice someone was in front of her until they cleared their throat. Katherine looked up and nearly passed out. Professor Elric was standing in front of her! What do I do? What do I do?! Katherine gave an awkward smile and melted as he smiled back. "Would you mind if I sit here? I don't quite like eating alone." He muttered something. Katherine wasn't sure what. Had to do with military that she heard. Katherine shook her head. "N-Not at all Professor." Elric sat down and scratched an itch behind his ea. "Isn't it rather...early for you to be up?" Katherine nearly choked on her food. He is sitting, and talking, to me? Breathe dammit! Katherine shrugged. "A bit. I actually wanted to talk with someone about going to Diagon Alley. I wasn't able to pick up supplies before school started." The professor raised an eyebrow. "Do you know....I've heard from the other professors the Diagon Alley would have everything I need for my classes, as the storerooms are empty. Perhaps Dumbledore will permit you to accompany me. Only makes sense not to waste a trip if we went together." Katherine's heart came close to stopping. "I wouldn't mind Professor." Elric cracked a grin and dug into his own food, leaving Katherine to swoon silently that she was going with him. I hope I don't pass out on him; BUT GOOD GOD HE IS AMAZING! Elric finished first and stood up. "I'll speak to Dumbledore now. If you need anything from your room grab it now. Meet back here in 15." Katherine could only nod. She waited for him to leave before leaping out of her seat, leaving food untouched, and racing to the Slytherin House.

The enchanted window managed to find a thin crack in the curtains around Kelsey's bed, shining fake sunlight into her eyes. Kelsey pulled the pillow over her head and tried to go back to sleep; but sleep eluded her. Groaning, Kelsey sat up and pulled open the curtains, glaring at the light. She'd make that a job for her to do at the library today. ind a book that had the counterspell to that blasted window. She pulled out a pair of cargo shorts and a simple gray shirt to go with her usual sneakers. Okay, last night she had been totally lazy to change without magic, but not this morning. Changing, Kelsey noticed Katherine's bed was empty. Huh...wonder where she went.... In answer, Katherine burst into the room. She was mumbling to herself and fiddling with her hair, pulling it back into a tail. "What's the rush? Got a hot date or something?" Apparently Katherine hadn't noticed she was up and jumped. Katherine was tripping over her own words as she tried to explain. "He! And I! And we! Diagon Alley!" Kelsey folded her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Care to try that again? As well as breathing?" Katherine had a silly grin on her face. "I'm going to Diagon Alley with Professor Elric!" She grabbed a pillow and screamed into it. She froze. "Ack! I have to go!" Kelsey shook her head as Katherine rushed out of the room. "Wow. Just wow." She followed Katherine at a slower pace, nodding to Professor Elric as she passed him and her roommate on her way into the Great Hall for a bite to eat. Katherine shivered as Professor Elric put his hand on her shoulder. "Are you cold Miss Katherine?" Katherine wondered for a moment how he knew her name before remembering that this was a school of magic. There were bound to be ways for the professors to know the names of students. He is something else. I hope I can control myself, if its just for a bit. "A little sir. Not quite like it is back home." The professor simply nodded and steered her out of the castle. "We will need to take the train to get to London, then from there we shall travel to Diagon Alley. We should be back by nightfall." Katherine could do nothing but nod, afriad of making herself sound stupid by blabbering and rambling. She also watched herself, not wanting to imprint her face in the gravel. When they arrived at the station, the two slid into a booth together. Moments later smoke bellowed from the stack of the train as it slowly took off.

Meanwhile, Kelsey was finding out where the library was. She had to stop several times to ask a ghost or professor. Personally, the ghosts creeped her out, especially the one they called Nearly Headless Nick. But with help, she was finally in front of a set of double doors. Taking a deep breath, Kelsey opened the door and walked in. The first thing she noticed was all the books. She started walking up and down the aisles, running her hand gently over the bindings. She knew this was where she was going to be spending a lot of time.

"In case you haven't noticed, the library is closed," a cool, accented voice said from behind her. Kelsey jumped and bumped into a bookcase, causing books to fall. "S-Sorry!" She hadn't noticed that the library had been empty. Kelsey looked up and saw a pair of crimson eyes staring coldy at her overtop a deep frown. Kelsey went weak in the knees despite his obviouse dislike of her being there. "S-Sorry Professor. I-I didn't realize it was closed." She bent to pick up the books when his hand stopped her. "Leave. Now." Kelsey gave a weak reply and hurried out of the library, making a full blown dash once in the hall. Only when she made it to her room did she let the tears in her eyes fall. She had finally found someone she was attracted to...and he was an ice king.
