Deadly Duo Chapter 2
“First years! O’er ‘ere!”

Many eyes turned to look at an abnormally large man, a certain pair of blue eyes included. Kelsey grudgingly made her way towards this man, one of the many apparent first years. Why did the first years have to go a different way from everyone else? What, were these people trying to make them feel bad and inferior?

Kelsey ignored the scenery around them as the boat they were in crossed the lake. She was too busy thinking about their destination. Hogwarts. A thing out of fantasy. Witchcraft wasn’t supposed to be real. Yet here she was. Would it be like anything she read about in books?

As if the boat ride wasn’t bad enough, the first years had to wait out in the hallway. Yeah….make them all feel self-conscious and nervous. Kelsey fiddled with her blonde hair, looking at a stone next to her foot through the specks on her glasses. She really should clean them, but she was too lazy to.

Finally, some bat came into the hallway, introducing herself as the head of some house and the Transfiguration teacher. She led the way into the Great Hall as she called it. Kelsey gave a sigh. About time they were brought in. She had had enough of the chattering the other first years were doing. And all about frivolous stuff too. Classes? Houses? Who cared? Certainly not Kelsey. This got her away from home. Away from the mother who wanted to control everything. Away from the brother who was the mama’s boy and favorite. Kelsey stood at the back of the group. Actually, in the very back. Feigning indifference at her surroundings, Kelsey examined the room. Four tables…not doubt for the houses. Banners, a ceiling that showed what the sky looked outside. And were those floating candles? The last place Kelsey looked was where the teachers sat. She mentally corrected herself. Professors. Here they were called professors.

They were all old geezers. Except for two that Kelsey’s eyes were drawn to. They looked to be Kelsey’s age. Oh yeah, Kelsey was 18 by the way. Stupid really seeing as how the other first years were eleven. Kelsey doubted that they had a mother though who controlled everything and though magic was kids stuff and this whole thing a prank. But now that Kelsey thought back on it, no wonder all that weird stuff happened to her as a kid. Although…Kelsey spotted a girl looking at the same professors she was that looked her age. Same boat perhaps? Kelsey shrugged. She could be wrong. All the youngsters these days were becoming giants to her.

The first teacher Kelsey didn’t stare at long. Long blonde hair, golden eyes, red coat, big deal. The other one on the other hand Kelsey couldn’t take her eyes off of. Well she did once to clean her glasses so she could take a better look at him. Blue hair, crimson eyes that she could lose herself in hidden behind reading glasses. And even though her was wearing a white collared dress shirt, a blue vest, and a tie to look professional, the muscles trying to tear through the shirt gave him away. This was no ordinary boring teacher. Kelsey almost fainted dead away then this…this…GOD she was looking at looked back at her, if only for a bit before returning to his book.

While Kelsey was caught up staring at this guy, the first years had been disappearing one by one until it was only her and the other girls staring at the youngest teachers were standing by the door. A name was called, and Kelsey, hearing it faintly, elbowed the other person. After all, she wasn’t Katherine. Then it was Kelsey’s turn. Bummer….she had to take her eyes off of him so she wouldn’t trip.

No matter. Her eyes were glued back to the delectable creature when she sat down at the Slytherin table, next to Katherine. I wonder what his job is here.
