Entry #22: Thunderstorms, Football Game and Band Tournament!
This is Fluffy signing in.

Woah... it feels like I haven’t been on the internet for weeks... crying sorry I haven’t been online for a while. I’ve been pretty busy with school, marching band, and working on my mom’s newsletter. sweatdrop I’ll explain what’s been goin’ on the past few days, okie? 4laugh

Today is 10/3/2010... It is 8:11pm... And I cannot stop thinking of Halloween! whee -opens up a bag of candy for you guys-

Let’s see... I guess all the craziness started on Thursday, so I’ll start from there.

Who here doesn’t like thunderstorms? -raises my hand- I don’t! They’re scary! >3< (call me wimp or a big baby if you want, I don’t really care stare ) We had this big thunderstorm on Thursday and the thunder was really loud! The weather here is crazy! On Wednesday, the temperature reached up to over 100 degrees! And now a thunderstorm the very next day?! WTF!? -sigh- Only in this part of Southern California will you ever find weather this random...

Since It was pouring down pretty hard, we couldn’t march today... cry And we really needed to practice, cuz our first band tournament was on Saturday! eek We were supposed to practice the final movement this day, but since it was raining, we couldn’t do that. Parade rehearsal after school was changed to music rehearsal as well.

After practice, me and Adam had to wait for his mom to pick us up. We waited outside the school’s theater with this other kid from drumline. (I can’t remember his name tho... xp ) Several minutes later, the rain randomly intensified and the thunder became twice as loud! (Dammit Adam! Why did you have to do that frickin rain dance!? scream ) The three of us stayed inside the theater. Then the drumline kid’s parent arrived and that left me and Adam.

We waited around for what felt like 20 minutes. The rain started to die down at this point, so Adam went outside to chase bugs while I stayed under this shaded area in front of the theater while texting Zac. Then all of a sudden, lightning flashed across the sky and freaked us out! We ran back inside and, two seconds later, we heard thunder! eek (a little random fact: when you see lightning, count how many seconds it takes until you hear thunder. So if you see lightning and 5 seconds later you hear thunder, it means that the lightning is 1 mile away. So remember: 5 sec = 1 mile away!)

Once our carpool arrived, we went home. I came home to an empty house, so I quickly made dinner them promptly went to sleep after changing.

Friday could have been better. The thunder was still here, but the sun was out at the same time. O.o really weird weather lately...

We had test in APEC this day. I didn’t do as well as I thought as I did, but at least I passed! sweatdrop I just hope I can pass this class at least....

Since there was no rain and the grass field wasn’t too muddy, we were able to march today. For our show, we would be doing movements 1-3 and the first chunk of movement 4 and play our music until the end.

After rehearsal after school and pass-offs, Tina and I went to Albertsons to go buy a bucket of chicken wings and a bunch of other stuff. We found a place to sit and eat for a bit before heading back to school. We also stopped by Cool Cravings for some frozen yogurt on our way there.

Once we got to the band room, it was time to change into uniforms. Our new uniforms haven’t arrived yet, but we will be able to use them for our tournament! biggrin

Then it was time to head to the football game. It was the usual: march down there, perform our march, and then go up to the stands. Half-Time was the usual as well: going down to warm up, perform our show, (everyone cheered during the third movement! mrgreen ) then move back to the stands and stay there until the game ended. (Our team lost 7 points to twenty-something points... -_________-“ )

And now... ow... ow... The main event... ent... ent... Our home... ome... tournament!!!!!! xd WHOO! Our tournament was amazing! We had 6 other bands in the tournament!

(To any marching band students out there reading this: you may skip this part if you want) I should probably explain how the tournaments work. Bands are categorized into different divisions; 1A division, 2A division, 3A and so on. They are categorized depending on the size of the band; 1A will be the smallest bands while 6A will be the largest bands. Our band is in the 5A division, but since this is our home tournament, we can’t compete. Each division has a 1st place award, a 2nd place and so on. Sweepstakes are awards given to the overall winner; this means that divisions don’t matter: the winner of sweepstakes is the winner out of ALL the bands competing.

There were two 1A bands, one 2A band, one 5A band, and two 6A bands. One of the 1A bands is our new neighbor-school; this is their first tournament! (The school’s name is Del Norte. Pronounced DEL-NOR-TAY) If we were competing in this tournament, our main competition be the other 5A band: Mira Mesa.

We started with rehearsal at around 3:00pm. Our dinner break was at 4:30pm. Then we had to get changed into uniforms at 6:45pm. We got to use our new uniforms! I thought they looked kinda silly at first, but when you see them on the field, they look pretty cool. (Our new uniforms include new white pants, white plumes, and these things called spats. Idk what they are for, but they are supposed to go on our dinkles)

It’s sad that we didn’t get to see the other shows, but that’s what YouTube is for! rofl Our show isn’t finished, but if you wanna see what we have right now, go here. This was recorded by a parent in the stands, so it ain’t that good, but it’s the best I could find. sweatdrop

After our performance, it was time for the judges to evaluate and give out awards to the bands! Del Norte got first place in the 1A division! WHOO!!! We ish so happy for our neighbor-school’s band! This is their first tournament too! When it came to the sweepstakes awards, we were all expecting RB (Ranch Bernardo) to win. RB wins, like, EVERYTHING when it comes to the sweepstakes awards rolleyes Yeah, their band is THAT good. But this time RB DIDN’T win the most sweepstakes awards! This other 6A band from Vista Murietta High School won the most! burning_eyes Everyone was in shock! This is proving to be one interesting marching season...

Well, that’s the end of that! It’s 11:54pm right now. This took me a loooooooong time to type cuz I got distracted by my DSi for a bit. Which reminds me: I’ve been creating these little cartoon characters of mine, and I think they would look good in a Flipnote... I’m a little too lazy to explain what a Flipnote is, so go look it up on your own. I guess that’s all I’ve got to say for today! Later my peeps! ~♪
