Y'know, this week, 4 celebrities died. Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and Billy Mays, in that order. I've never seen anything like it; all of them died within 7 days of each other.
It's sad that all of them died, but I'm most upset about Michael Jackson and Billy Mays. Not to say I don't care about Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon...It's just, I didn't really know too much about Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett has been sick for a long time anyway.
But MICHAEL JACKSON, man, he was AMAZING! Sure, he was the subject of many of my jokes, but that doesn't mean he wasn't an extraordinary singer, songwriter, and dancer. He was famous from the time he was a child, up until he died. Not too many people have done that. He invented the moonwalk, among other dance moves. He revolutionized the music industry, doing things nobody had even heard of at the time. Sure he did some pretty strange things in his lifetime, but that doesn't take away from his talents.
Sometimes when I was a kid, I'd act like him and try to dance like him, and I thought I could do the moonwalk. (I was doing it wrong, but I didn't realize that until about 5 or 6 years later. XD) Plus, I thought he was pretty good-looking before his skin changed.
Then there's Billy Mays, who I just heard about today. I mean, come on, it's BILLY FREAKING MAYS. This guy could sell ANYTHING. He was (debatably) the best salesman ever. He would always show up in infomercials for lots of different products and yell at you to get you to buy whatever it was. It almost seems like he had some sort of magic in his voice that made you buy the product. Watching his commercials, you'd feel annoyed, but it would be the good kind of annoyed. He was even in a TV show with Anthony Sullivan on the discovery channel.
...Okay, some people wouldn't be as upset about Billy Mays. But I really looked up to him. I would always wondered how his throat never got sore, or how he never lost his voice, the way he yelled like that all the time. I would always wonder if he yelled all the time, even in normal conversations. And I would wonder if he trimmed and styled his beard, or if it grew naturally that way. It was all so astounding to me.
I dunno...It just seems like they'd all live forever. You know, like you'd see them in the news or in a commercial every day, or hear their new song on the radio every once in a while. It's just so unexpected and sad to see them go. Especially 4 in one week. >.<
