......something inyteresting
Sol Chapter 4
When she woke up she noticed two things: first she had a pounding headache and second her back was killing her. Evaria opened her eyes and her vision swam. She groaned, “What happened?” Her words came out slurred. She tried to push her self off the ground but her body felt as if she weighed a ton and she flopped back down. Which unfortunately was littered with small rocks. She groaned again, “No wonder my back hurts.” Hot wind blew all around her making the air stifling and pelted her face with dirt.
Evaria covered her face with her arm to keep the dirt from hitting her and just laid where she was waiting for her head to stop pounding. She grimaced at the pain and tried to remember what had happened. Strange redhead grabbed me. Said some strange things. Her eyes snapped open, “The redhead.” After five minutes of struggling she finally sat up with out her vision swimming.
She looked around her. She was sitting in a barren wasteland. The ground was gray as if covered by ash. Jagged rocks of every size and dead twisted trees landscaped the entire ground as far as she could see. Far into the distance she saw what looked like mountains. She looked up at the sky a found that it was covered with rolling gray clouds like there was going to be a large storm but there was no thunder and defiantly no rain.
“Man what a depressing place.” She looked around for the redhead but saw no sign of him. “Really? This guy is going to drag me to Emo Land then disappear!? He should really feel shame,” Evaria sighed. The hot wind blew again throwing more dirt in her face. Evaria spat out grit and glared at nothing, “Stupid wind.” She stood up slowly and started to the nearest large rock sticking out of the ground.
As she reached it another gust of wind came by and she hid behind the rock away from the wind. She leaned against it and sighed again. She looked up at the gray sky, “I wonder if Mom has noticed that I'm gone. She'll be scared and worried. She'll wonder when I'm coming home or if I'm coming home,” Evaria started to cry, “She'll cry and hope that nothing bad has happened to me.” She sank to the ground and pulled her knees up to her chest ad gave a watery laugh, “I guess it's me who is crying.”
The sniffed and buried her face in her knees, “Where am I?” The wind blew again but this time it brought a faint nose with it. Evaria lifted her head and sniffed. The wind died down and so did the noise. Evaria wiped her face and stood up had she just imagined the noise? The sound came again but this time a little louder and not on the wind. It was a low keening sound. Almost as if wolves were howling.
Evaria looked around her but saw nothing, “What?” She moved out from behind the rock to and look out into the expanse behind her. She saw a large dust cloud in the distance. She rubbed her eyes and squinted. In front of the cloud where specks of something moving towards her. She took a step forward and stared, “What the hell?” As the specks got closer she noticed that the specks where running. The dust cloud was being kick up by what ever was come her way.
She bit her lip with indecision. Should she hide or stay where she was and hope that who ever they where they where friendly? May be they would turn an go in another direction? She waited, “Well lets just see who they are. If they look friendly I'll stay but if they don't then I'll hide.” She looked around her and moaned, Hide where!? Theres only rocks and dead trees! The low keening noise filled the air again. Defiantly howling.
Evaria looked at the cloud. It had gotten closer then she thought. She could see the specks clearly now. The specks looked like wolves but not normal ones. They where the size of a large horse and colored with white, black and grays. Their paws flew over the ground at an amazing speed and each wolf had two or three tales. She blinked, That noise that I heard must be those wolf things.
“Right well I think its safe to say that I should hide right about now. Wild animals and me do not mix.” She looked around again hoping to find something. “Damn!” She saw a cluster of rocks a little ways to her right. They weren't the best cover she could hope for but they could hide her from the sight of the on coming wolves. She could hear the paws of the wolves hit the ground. It sounded like distant thunder and the ground vibrated slightly under her from the impact.
Evaria ran over to the rocks and ducked behind them. She waited for them to pass.....and she waited..........and waited some more. Maybe they were farther away then I thought. She peeked around the rock and came face to face with a large furry white chest. She swallowed and slowly brought her eyes up. Looming over her head by a foot was a large muzzle filled with large and very sharp teeth.
Evaria paled, “I guess not.” A scream ripped from her mouth and she turned and fled. Well thats what the plan was she only got the scream out when the wolf spoke, “QUIET HUMAN!!!!” Evaria's jaw snapped shut with an audible click. Her eyes went wide. The wolf huffed and a gust of warm air brushed by her. “That is much better.”
“Please don't eat me Mister Giant Talking Wolf! I swear I taste like crap!” The wolf snarled and snapped at her. She squeaked and fell to the ground. “I don't eat pathetic humans,” the wolfs voice rumbled, “And I am no disgraceful wolf.” He spat out the word wolf and she cringed, “Do I look like an animal to you human?” Evaria stared at him, “Was that a rhetorical question?”
The non-wolf growled at her again and she held up her hands in surrender, “Sorry, sorry.” Evaria sighed loudly and put her head in her hands, What the hell is going on? A dead land and talking over sized animals. How the hell is this the start of my destiny?
“Human female this is not the time to be sitting. The Dark Lord's army approaches in search of you.” She heard shuffling and lifted her head. She then noticed for the first time the other non-wolf things. There were seven of them all together. They were shifting nervously and sniffing the air. “We must leave now. There is no time.”
Evaria looked at the non-wolf, “What are you talking about? Better yet how and why can you talk?” The non-wolf huffed again, “Your questions will be answered later buy Lord Rhyou.” “Rhyou? Who the hey is that!? I don't know a Rhyou.”
The wolf ignored her and walked up to her and grabbed the back of her shirt. “What are you doing!?” He lifted her up off the ground and swung her over his shoulder onto his back. She gapped down at him, “You better hold on.”
“Hold on...,” the non-wolf howled and she covered her ears. Then she was jerked back as he started to run. She yelped and flung her self forward and locked her arms around his neck. She held on for dear life as he ran faster. As she closed her eyes against the wind she saw that he non-wolf was heading in the direction of the mountains.
