The rain stopped coming down and Evaria dropped her umbrella then took off running. She heard the man laugh cruelly behind her. Another person came around the corner in front of her and stood waiting for her with a grin. She turned to her right running into the park. The men followed after her but didn't run. Instead it seemed as if they where stalking her and making a game of it.
When she realized this her fear left her and was replaced with anger. “Jerks,” she mumbled,”I'll show you. You want to play fine. Lets see if you can catch me.” She lived her for all her life and the vast woodsy park was her play ground. She turned left and ran into the wooded area.
She ran until she came to a tree thats trunk was bigger than all the other trees. She jumped and caught the lowest branch that was hanging and began to climb. Near the top was a floor made of planks of wood. When she was a little girl her and her friends had put it together as a fort to fight the towns bullies.
She climbed on top and look around. It was dusty but all the things she had left her before were untouched. Good. She grabbed the small hand telescope off the floor and dusted it. She looked through it watching for the men. This was the best spot to be if you wanted to find a person.
The tree stood in the middle of the wooded area and was one of the tallest. From her vantage point she could see all the way around her and to the edge of the woods. She pulled out her cell phone but saw that it was out of service. She frowned that wasn't right. There had always been service in the park. What was going on? She shrugged it off.
Evaria heard crunching and brought up the scope. With the faint light coming from the park lights she was able to make out the men. There was three of them and they were spread out evenly in a row combing the woods. Who ever they were they were intent on finding her. The question is why? Why her? What did they want? Evaria became irritated. So many questions unanswered.
I'll just wait tell they move on then run home. As soon as I get out of the park I'll call my mom or the police. The men walked silently underneath her. She held her breath and hoped they didn't hear her pounding heart. For big men with big boots they sure don't make a lot of noise. They passed her with out looking up. She turned and followed their progress out of the woods onto the park pathway.
They stopped and mumbled to each other. One of them stared to wave his arms angrily he shouted something she didn't catch and one man went left and the other went right down the path. The third man stood there for a second as if thinking and turned around and went north. Directly away from her.
Evaria smiled and let out her breath. “I'm safe,” but even as she said this the feeling of uneasiness didn't leave. She climbed down the tree slowly making as little noise a possible. Her feet touched the ground and she stopped and waited. The only sounds around her were the sounds of bugs and her own breathing. She turned around and ran into something solid and warm.
Evaria froze and look up. Another man stood in front of her. His features where shrouded by shadows and the only thing she could see was glowing green eyes. I'm not going home. The certainty of the statement hit her hard and she stumbled back against the tree. This is why she felt so uneasy. She should have just stayed home.
She took a deep breath, “Not your average mugger huh,” she laughed nervously. Evaria slowly inched to her right keeping as far aways as she could from the guy. He laughed, “Honey I'm not here to mug you. I'm here to kidnap you,”his voice was deep and silky. It sent chills down her spine and not the good ones.
She made it around him and finally saw him in the light. He was a head taller than her. His face was weathered and hard. Black hair fell around green eyes. Her eyes were drawn to the scar on his face. Two parallel jagged scars starting at his hair line and reaching over his right eye to the edge of his jaw. The scars made him seem more fierce. Evaria swallowed, “Sorry but I really don't want to be kidnapped. So your just going to have to find someone else to take.” She turned and fled in the direction of the park entrance.
As she was running Evaria realized that she couldn't hear the man following her. She looked over her shoulder and saw no one behind her. Where did he go? She turned her head and ran right into the kidnapper. She fell to the ground winded. Evaria stared up in shock at the man.
He laughed loudly, “I would love to play cat and mouse with you but I'm on a deadline,” he look down at her his eyes gleaming dangerously, “Time to go.” He reached for her but stopped and looked up confused.
Evaria felt the air become heavy as if a heavy weight was pushing at her from all sides. Then she saw and felt electric currents cracking in the air above her. She gasped but fear and curiosity kept her glued to her spot on the ground. The currents abruptly came together into a ball and stood still for a moment before exploding. Evaria screamed and threw her arm over her face to protect her and closed her eyes from the bright light.
It was over in seconds. The heaviness, the currents, and the light disappeared. Everything was still and there was no sound. Evaria opened her eyes and slowly put her arm down. Tiny bright dots danced in her vision and she blinked them away. When she could see again she looked up but didn't see her kidnapper. In front of her, facing her napper, was another man.
His tall lean form was covered in a long black heavy jacket reaching to the ends of his boots. Blood red hair fell to waist untied swaying slightly in the whispering wind. He turned his head towards her so she could see half his face. Red bangs framed a delicate face the color of dusky gold. His ear was pointed and pierced four times. Slitted steel blue eyes stared back at her. What the hell is going on?
