Memories
Once...there was a girl. Karina Castillo.

------

"But don't you just wish something real could happen? Something thrilling... non-expectant?" The young girl would ask the commander.
Not knowing what would happen in only a few years.
------

It was 2025, and the world was decaying, slowly falling down from the inside out.
Whle countries had collapsed into the oceans, disappearing into their deepest depths as if they were never there.
((Yes, even Japan had fallen.))

The United states had split apart at that time,
somehow surviving. (Mostly.)
The east, west, and south. The Northern states, including Canada and above, had collapsed as well, leaving only another vast ocean.

Karina Castillo came from the west-side, and even in her whole little life, had never even imagined something like this to happen.

Almost every state had to fend for themselves. And from the more than six billion people one day, four billion had been wiped out. Leaving abandon cities, homes, farms, almost everything.

The U.S.A. had formed a secret organization though, incase such an emergency would happen. And as it did, the orginization was sent out to promote order, and society.

California, Nevada, and Oregon formed their own "public nation" with the organization's help. They retained order, built strong castle-like structures and made their own army force.

Since the world was in Chaos, the countries, nations, states, would fight each other for power, and to gain supplies for themselves.
((Note that major electric power supplies crashed down too. Leaving most of the world cut off from mechanical supplies and the such.))
Any state or nation that wasn't prepared for anything at any second "died" or "surrendered" in only seconds between a major attack.
Even now, in their mini-nation, many couldn't be trusted, and the "army" force was strict. If you didn't obey any-one of them without the slightest notation or care, you'd be killed on the spot. Even in front of family. No matter who you were.

Yes, it was now that people had pactically prayed every day that they wouldn't die or fall into the oceans like the others. But only time can tell. And this is Karina's story about what happened in her own time.

-------------------

Hm, guess it's my turn... again. The girl thought, while sweeping the slightly cramped room, her hair in a mess, and her face gleaming with sweat.

She'd always have to clean the house every second day. Sighing deeply, she went to the fridge, grabbing a water bottle and stepping out onto the balcony.
"Hmm... wonder what they're eating for breakfast today... they always serve the best foods on Mondays..." The girl would say to herself, leaning her arms over the rail, as she looked off into space.
"Hey! Maid-girl! Get back to work!" A soldier had passed by, seeing her standing on the balcony.

"Aye, Aye'." She replied, only sighing once again as she slipped back into her room.
Only minutes later to hear a clicking sound at the door. She stood up straighter, at attent, thinking it was probably the soldier again.
The door opened with a soft screeching noise to reveal a man, woman, and a baby.

"Ah! Mother! Father! It's great to see you.~" The girl laughed, holding her baby sister up high in the air.
"Haha, Karina. Wow, place looks great! You're such a good helper." Her mother would say, uncovering a small plate from her under-coat.
Pancakes.
For breakfast.

"Ohhh~!" Karina looked at the food in awe, already seeming to taste them in her water-mouth, even though she had yet to even touch them.
Karina stuffed her face full of the sweet foods, while talking.
"Sh'yeah? Welff it shems yike I can'tsh evesh take a break aneymorsh, haha, shum guard yelled shat me forsh, standing on the balchony and drinking some water."
She said, still enjoying her food.
Her parents looked at each other for a second, then back to her in concern.
Her father speaking first, "Well you just make sure you don't make them angry anymore, Karina." He said, her mother nodding and replying, "Yes. You know full well of what they're capable of."

Karina only rolled her eyes and nodded, sarcastically.
"I seriously don't see how you guys can be afraid of them!~ So, the have guns? Big deal.~ If they killed me, so what, another person is dead. Wooh.~ Not like they're going to broadcast me on "Oprah". Plus, that would just give one more person, maybe...just another Pancake?" She said, her smile forming a slight frown.
Her parents only sighed and shook their heads, the baby though, now nowhere to be found.
Karina had put her down before she started eating, and hadn't sen her since.

"Her...where'd Addision go?"
Karina said suddenly, getting up and instantly heading for the opened door that her father must had forgotten to shut. The mother would go to check the room, her father heading out too, the opposite way of Karina.

"Man. Horrible timing too..we're not supposed to be out right now." Karina mumbled, cursing under her breath while fast-walking through the marble hallway.
Not looking, she rounded a corner suddenly, bumping into a figure. She instantly recognized him as the soldier from before, and turned to make a run for it,
but unsucsessfully.

He grabbed her shoulder roughly from behind when she turned around, and pointed his gun at her head.
"Hey, you're the little Maid-girl from earlier! Hah...off to the office for you.
Trouble-maker."

He said, mockingly whispering in her ear, and whisping her around, pushing her down towards another hallway.
She was of course, unaffraid, but was worried about her sister, hoping she and her father hadn't been caught.

They'd finally made their way to an enclosed room, where some other soldier's helped in blind-folding her, and locking her up hand-cuffed to a metal chair in the room.
About a half-hour later, she heard a clicking sound at the door.
It opened, as she heard footsteps coming in, making a slight echo.

"Ah-hah! I had a feeling it was you, Karina." A man would say, her recognizing his voice at once.
She was shocked, and replied loudly, "Commander Owen?!"
He laughed a bit, raising his hand as a stop signal to the offended soldiers that stood beside him.

"Well, I guess I mean Commander Davidson, huh?"
She said, obviously hearing the slight pause in the moment.
"Ah, it's fine, you don't need to be formal, old friend."
He said, smiling slightly, as her crossed his hands behind his back.

The soldier whom had brought her in spoke up then,
"You know her Commander?"
The man turned his form slightly, nodding to the soldier.
"Yes, we knew each other a while back, when she was more of a child, and the world wasn't...divided."

Karina's expression saddened a bit at that,
"Of course you mean, sunk into the dark depths of the Earth?
But anyways...so can I go?"

The same soldier clenched his teeth together then,
"What do you think you're asking of little Maid-girl?
You think that just because Commander---"

He was cut off suddenly, the commander had stepped forward
to the girl, taking off her blindfold and cuffs.

Karina stood up and stretched, nodding with a slight smile to Owen.
He nodded back genorously.
"You're just lucky I was on duty today, Karina. Just make sure you don't get into trouble next time alright? Otherwise I can't be here to help you out."
The soldiers that were in the room were shocked, but would still follow his orders.
Another one speaking up then, "Shall I escort the girl back, Sir?"
He said, stepping forward and holding his gun at ease at his side.
"That would be nice, Soldier. And if anyone asks, she was just out for questioning."
He replied, nodding once again, and exiting the room with the others.

Karina waved to him as he exited into another hallway,
then turned to the soldier again.
"Sooo.~ You ready, Mr. Soldier?"
She said, pulling her right hand to her face and yawning a bit,
but already heading for the closed door,
only to be stopped though, the soldier slamming his hand to the door in front of her, she turning around, confused.
"Little girl, don't think you're saved just because Commander Davidson was on duty. I'm going to report a girl like you to Commander Rollen, and tell him to not let you off so easily next time."
He said, his teeth clenched together and looking down on her like an ant.
Karina only nodded lightly, surprised to see the Soldier would say such a thing.
Man, they're just getting stricter...aren't they?" She thought, as the man grasped her shoudler again, and walked her out.

A few minutes later, they had reached her room, him unlocking the door, and pushing her in to the ground roughly.
"Wow. Thanks for escortin' meh Mr. Soldier.~"
She said, smiling at him a bit teasingly, as her parents came into the room worried, and bowing deeply to the soldier.
"Thank you so much for letting our daughter go, we'll make sure this doesn't happen again!" They said, almost in unison.
