Hiya! It's my eigth journal entry already. This time, the entry will be a little bit longer than normal. My mom said that she wanted to write a book... So of course I have to write a book first. I had an Idea, PLEASE comment! Tell me what you honestly think, so I can improve. Sorry about the spelling errors. Here is the first chapter:
Ch 1 New school
My parents say that I have too much energy. Which wouldn't be so bad if I were human. Sure, I look normal enough, but on the inside, well I guess I'm still normal. My parents say that I'm just a late bloomer, and that my powers will awaken anyday. If only. I really don't mind not having any magical skills, it's not that of a big deal for me. However, both my mother and father are sorserors themselves and have high hopes for me. They want me to go to a good school and become a succesful witch. they are always optomistic and say that I will get my poweres soon and not to worry, although they're the ones worrying.
My mother says that when I get my powers, I'll be bouncing off the walls. Literally. Sure it'd be fun to fly on a broom and make potions, cast spells and all that junk. Although without any powers, I don't have to take any lessons, and there's a lower risk of blowing up the house. I can't add magical properties to potions and therfore can't accidentally kill someone with a simple sleep potion. I also won't be able to ride a broom and then fall off when in mid air. There's alot of perks to having magic and vice versa. I just live my life day by day and pretty much ignore all the little details. I guess you could say that I'm a little oblivious.
I live in a normal town with normal friends, in a normal life (My life is a little different I'll admit, but overall, very normal.). I have normal long, blonde, curly, hair, normal green eyes (which my mother swears will glow when I cast a spell) and a normal complexion (with the occasional zit). I'm nothing that special, average height, average grades, average pet; kitten. And now I'm on an average train (Although the train was a very nice dark blue that sparkled in the sun) to an average private school. Oh, and by the way, My names Talia.
The train was fairly warm, but I was cool in my buttercup summer dress. There were compartments all along the isles. The walls were a plain tan and the seats were a comfortable brown. I could hear the laughter and murmers of the other students (my compartment was empty). The door to the compartments had no windows, just a symbol on the front in large print. The symbol was like a teardrop with a triangle overlaping it. In the center there was an x with an extra horizontal line extending from the center. There was a window on the opposite side of the door. As I had mentioned before, the train was warm and stuffy. I reached over and pulled the window down and the white ribbon in my hair naturally flew to my mouth. "pleth, pthspth." I pulled the ribbon from my mouth when I heard the door to my compartment open.
"Well if it isn't little miss dud. For what possible reason could you be hear? I mean it's not like you have any magical talents or anything." Jessica sneared. I turned around and Uhhgg! Standing right in front of me was the always malicious Jessica Howell. Her short cropped black hair and blue eyes screamed evil witch. (emphasis on EVIL) That and the mark on her cheek. All witches have a small mark an thier upper right cheek. Mine is very faint because I haven't gotten my full powers. Jessicas, mark was a blue sun.
Behind Jessica were three other girls. They reminded me of the possie she had in third grade. Now that we were in ninth, seeing those girls almost made me laugh. The strangest thing of Jessicas possie was that they were all wearing similar clothes. A red shirt with a black skirt and small boots. One was very short, but petite and the other too were tall and average width, twins with brown hair. One of the twins was a witch, the other too weren't. It isn't uncommon for one sibling to have magical traits while the others don't. No one knows why and frankly, I'm not really sure if that subject interests me. Although I do know that about 35% of people are witches or wizards. (Athough In my small town, there aren't too many witches)
"So you have a new possie I see." I calmly stated. (I was still trying not to laugh) "Yes, This is Jamie and the twins are sky and alex. My family and thier family are friends, but I wouldn't expect you to know them. They are upperclassmen unlike you." she explained. I live in a small house on the edge of town while Jessica on the other hand lives in the middle of town in a huge mantion. she continued to rant on and on about the fancy parties that her and her crew had gone to. I tuned in somewhere toward the end of her lecture. "well, giggle, are you going to be taking any magic classes?" She just had to hear me say it. I might as well let her hear what she had been wanting. "No Jessica, I will not be taking any magic classes. I don't have any magic at the moment. I know that you are probably taking advanced classes. I'm guessing you came hear to tell me that and you brought your possie (Still trying not too laugh) to try and intimidate me. Now would you please leave me alone?" Ha! take that Jessica. Sweet revenge, mwahaha! I had her in a corner. She had been wanting to see the look on my face. I could tell by the anger I saw in her eyes. I matched it with a glare. Jessica opened her mouth and promptly shut it again. Turned around and stormed off with her folowers right behind her.
I waited till thier footsteps had faded before I burst out laughing. And just as I was laughing myself to tears, two what I would guess were two seniers walked by and gave me weird looks. The stares made me feel akward in so many ways, so I stopped laughing. Why did jessica have to leave the door open. I took my notebook out of my bag along with a pencil. I shuffled through the pages till I found what I was looking for. An unfinished pencil sketch of a lake surounded by mountains. I started to shade the bark of a tree near the waters edge, and slowly moved to the branches that were in full bloom. After a few minutes I jumped after hearing the sound of the wistle blowing. I looked out the window to see tall grassy meadows with what could possibly be a pond in the distance. The sky was orange and violet with clouds that had a pink tint. It was a beautiful sight and I started to imagine sitting out there and drawing the scene. I drifted to sleep at some point because soon I saw the clouds start to dance about.
I had a strange dream, The once gentle clouds started to twirl. I watched as the water in the lake dry up and leave behind a baren ditch. The trees' leaves wilted and everything seemed to vanish. The bushes, leaves, clouds, grass, everything vanished. All that was left was the ground and hills. I felt very uncomfortable, all I wanted to do was go down there and help the earth. I called out in anguish but no noise left my lips. I felt like crying, it was the worst feeling I had ever had. I then went into a daze, a blur of colors and nausia.
I woke from my daze when I felt a hand on my shoulder. That hand seemed to lead me back to consiousness. "Wake up, we're here. Come on, do you want the train to leave with you still on it?" It was a very nostalgic voice, I opened my eyes slowly. I had no idea what time it was, but in the cabin it was dark and the only light came from a small lamp. When I came into focus i sat up to see the outline of a guy. He was leaning down and gently shaking my shoulder. There wasn't much light, but he seemed to be smiling. He had slightly wavy hair that wasn't too long, but not extremely short. He chuckeld then stood up and walked out the door. It was quiet in the train as I tried to collect my thoughts. I sat dazed for a moment, realized that the train would leave soon and scrambled to the exit.
I was one of the last ones out of the train. I could hear Jessica out in the distance. In front of me was an enormous brick building. The red brick was covered in a dark ivy. There were a few more buildings to the left and some more to the right. I couldn't tell, but it looked like there was a green house. The train wistle blew and it started to leave. A teacher called all the ninth graders to gather so I walked over to the rather friendly looking woman. I saw the rest of the students leave towards what I would guess is the main hall. I looked back at the teacher who was wearing a light pink blouse. She had glasses and her hair was in a bun. "Now all you freshmen listen closely. Through those doors is the main hall. (Ha! thank you teacher.) To your left will be a large archway, through that is the commons room; where you will eat your meals. You will sit in the third table on the right tonight. For any other night you may sit wherever you like. After you eat you will report to the chairmans office to get your school maps, uniforms and dorm keys. If you have any questions, just go to the office."
Uniforms! I was tricked! My dad said nothing about uniforms, he was in so much trouble. the last thing I wanted was to be stuck in some ugly plaid skirt and itchy brown shirt. "Growl" It was then that I realized how hungry I was. My stomach was telling me that the last meal I had was an early lunch. The teacher led the students to th Main hall. I took a look at my surroundings on the way. In adition to the ivy covered walls there were many, many flowers. They were dark purple and white There were students, both girls and boys, af all shapes and sizes. I saw that there were more witches and wizards than I had expected which made me a little nervous(I mean come on. First day at school, anyone would be nervous.) I just hoped that they would accept me. As I walked into the hall I was amazed by what I saw. The walls were a light shade of gray with white molding. The lights were chandalears full of crystals and the flooring was white marble and there were about a thousand mirrors. I could smell the strong aroma of some delicat soup that made my mouth water. I closed my eyes to take in the smell and almost tripped. (Note self: don't close eyes) The rest of the Ninth graders and myself sat down to supper. The commons room was very larg and there were six tables. Each table had a feast upon it with silver platters with foods of all sorts and cups of beverages. The room itself was a light cream with light yellow tablecloths. Once again the cealing was adorned with crystal chandalears. I felt slightly isolated ftom the other students conversations around me, but the room was filled with noise and that pleasent aroma. So despite the deprivation of chatter, I was enjoying myself.
I was letting myself have another bowl of that delicate soup I had smelled earlier, when a grape came hurturling toward me. I ducked just in time, the grape mad a whooshing noise as it zoomed past my head. A group of boys started laughing, at least one shouted sorry. From then on I payed a little more attention while I finished my soup. Not too many people had finnished thier meals, but I was really tired so I went to find the Chairmans office.
I wearily drifted across the hall to the Chairmans office and was given my sckedule, map, dorm key and a bag that contained my new itchy uniform. The moon was out and the air was still, a few crickets were chirping as I walked to my dorm. I checked my map once more to make sure I was going the right direction. The moonlight shone brightly and reflected off of my grandmothers necklace. She had bought it long ago and then gave it to me before she moved to cleveland(why she moved there I will never know) It was a simple silver chain with a green heart, she said it would match my magic. I think it matches my eyes. I wear it almost every day, it just feels natural. The path came to an end and in front of me there was a large building similar to the main school. This must be my new home.
I looked back at my key, It read L4R426. well that means that my room is on level four room 426.(That or room 4 level 426, but that is highly unlikely) Now I have to Climb four stories every day.(yay...) After what seemed like a thousands stairs I arived at my dorm. The door was slightly opened, so I assumed that my roomate was already there. I hoped that she would not be Jessica. The door cracked as I entered the room. I saw Exactly what I had been dreading; Jessica. "Don't tell me your my roomate Jessica?" She looked at me with confusion for a seconed then seemed to realize something and started to speak. "Me? No, I'm just checking out other peoples rooms. Just to make sure that I have the best room. Only thing is, all the rooms seem to be the same. I'll have to talk to the principle about that." Thank goodness she wasn't my roomate. Jessica sneared once more before leaving. I could tell this was going to be a long year. Then it occured to me, " How did you get into my room?". She chuckled and started to walk out the door before she replied, " How do you think dud." she started walk away and snapped. My door slammed shut and I had to jump out of the way. Jessica, she had gotton her revenge.
I unlocked my door and walked inside, still a little annoyed. My room was a maroon with two identical sides. Each side had one bed, one closet, one desk, and a very comfortable chair and lamp. The full size beds had layers of beding and fluffy golden pillows. The headboards were on the two side walls and the foot of both beds were about five feet apart. Inbetween them was a large circular window. On either side of the door were the two large mahogany dressers. And next to the dressers were the two desks. They were also a dark wood and fairly simple and plain. At the foot of both beds were Footstools that looked like they had compartments underneath. And to add to all that beautiful furniture, there were two bedside tables. I chose the bed on the right and started to wonder where my lugage was, when it appeard on the floor by the door. I jumped in surprise and picked up my suitcase. Next to my suitcase there was another set, two luggage bags with matching red stripes. I sighed and started unpacking my things.
I put my clothes in the dresser and took out a couple frames. I put a picture of my family on the bedside table along with a white alarm clock. I put a poster of a pretty sunset my my bed and a tan blanket on my bed. although the bed had so many blankets, I doubted I would need it. I took out my school supplies last and placed them on the desk. I took out my laptop and plugged it in to a socket that was conveniently located next to the desk. I had done everything I had needed to and saved the worst for last. I had to take out my uniform.
Before I could open the bag, I heard a nock on the door. A girl with jeans and a blue tank walked in. " Hi, is this room 426?" she stopped, took a step back and checked the door. " Good...I'm Alexis your roomate, but please call me Lexi. I hate the name Alexis." She was a very tan girl with short dark brown hair. She had a pair of old white tennies and she had alot of freckles. I stood up and walked over to shake her hand. " I'm Talia, and I'm so glad your not Jessica". She had a really confused look on her face. Before she could think I was weird, I stuttered, " N-never mind, anyway... Your bags are over there. I hope you don't mind, but I took the right side." Her face turned back to normal. Yes, no more confusion, no more wierd me! " Thats ok, left is good for me. I'll unpack and go to bed."
She turned around to get her suitcase and I grabbed my book. I jumped on the bed and turned on the lamp. Lexi giggled and I felt slightly embarrased. I guess nineth graders don't normally jump onto thier beds. I must admit, it was funny. The rest of the night had little action. I read a chapter in my book, I brushed my teeth in the very nice bathroom. There were six porceline sinks (Are all private schools this nice?) and blue carpeting. The walls were a light blue and there was a separate room for the showers. I changed into a large Tee-shirt and went to bed. Classes started tomarrow at nine, I felt like I was goig to puke.
