A record of my existence, should anything happen to me...
Things were looking rather grim for me, I held out for much longer than I would have thought possible. Everyday Kuro came to question me and his frustration was starting to show. His last visit left my back with deep welts and caked with blood. This time he had brought a bamboo cane with him to help work out his anger on me. Like a fool, I laughed. I laughed so hard I cried. For all his words about using my emotions against me, he became controlled by his own. I wondered if that was Kaerizaki’s doing as well. I barely felt my own pain as I mocked him. It only fueled his rage more and for the first time in my captivity I truly thought that I would die.

I was saved however when his cell phone rang, snapping him out of his agitated state. He listened quietly to the one on the line, his expression ranging from annoyance to calm and then satisfaction. “I understand, I will take care of this myself.” Kuro said as he hung up, his emotions now in check.

“It seems that I have found our dear Shiro-kun. Since, like you, he’s declined polite invitation, I’m afraid that it will require some persuasion on my part to have him join us. But don’t fret hime-chan, once I’ve finished with you and Shiro is ‘rehabilitated’ by the doctor, you will get to see him again.”

“Are you trying to upset me now? It seems less effective after your earlier display. And where does that confidence of yours come from? That surely wasn’t programmed into us,” I goaded.

“It must come from the same place as that sharp tongue of yours,” he rebuffed and gave me a parting shot that made my head spin. Left alone once again in the dark, I closed my eyes and allowed myself to drift back into oblivion.

A while later I awoke to the sound of a loud crash. I didn’t think I was out very long by the throbbing in my head. Were we under attack? What was going on outside? Within minutes I heard something hit the floor outside my door and the security lock being opened. I sat up in anticipation as the door creaked open. A figure approached me in the dark, not bothering to turn on the lights. They bent down and touched my shoulder speaking softly, “Mizuiro.”

I nodded, his voice was familiar in my hazy mind. “Can you move, Mizuiro?” I tried to force myself to my feet but my legs gave way. He put an arm around my back to steady me, but I winced in pain and he retracted it quickly and covered me with his jacket. He sighed and I felt myself being lifted over his shoulder.

I clung to his shirt as he took me from my prison, “Shiro.” I could feel him tense under me when I said his name. “Shiro,” I managed a little steadier, “What-”

“Later, not now.” He carried me out a hole in the side of the building, climbing onto the back of a truck that stunk of garbage. I was assaulted with light and sound. A helicopter was hovering overhead and sirens blared in the distance, getting closer. The sunlight seared my eyes and I squeezed them shut as I felt Shiro carefully put me down and strap something around me. I blinked rapidly wanting to see his face. He secured the harness quickly and signaled the pilot. I reached for him as I was lifted away. He looked at me for a moment, his face unreadable before he turned away and disappeared into the throng. My eyes welled up with tears that I couldn’t stop. I didn’t even know why I was crying.

Two days later I awoke in a hospital bed. It was a private room, more luxurious than I had ever seen. I was covered in bandages and hooked up to oxygen and an IV. I looked around for any sign of visitation but there was none. What had I been hoping for anyway?

A week has passed and still I have heard nothing. My stitches were removed and though I would have a few scars I have recovered considerably. I was released and given my belongings. Shiro had provided me with some fresh clothes, a bit of cash, a new cell phone and a set of keys. If anything, he had good taste. In my pocket I found a note telling me what had happened. The keys were to a residence he had that I could use for the time being. He also left me with a number to a message service where I could leave him word if I wanted to contact him. I would at least let him know that I am back on my feet. I am still not sure what to make of it all but I want to see him.
