Name: Malcom Namoi
Race: Human
Age: 18
Plane of Origin: The Related Worlds, World 12A.
World 12A is the first world in Series Twelve of the Related Worlds and a parallel world to Earth. It differs from that world in that its science and technologies are based on magic (They, however, would say that the difference is that Earth, referred to as World 12B, turned away from magic to technology, since most of the Related Worlds are magic-oriented, like 12A.) This occurred at some point during the Fourteenth Century, and although 12A still resembles 12B in many ways relating to events before that time (the landmasses are the same, for example), much of its subsequent history is different. (A note of clarification: though Malcom is from World 12A, 12A is merely part of a much larger plane encompassing our world and twelve other Series worth of parallel worlds: the Related worlds. Much like the Shards of Alara, they may be referred to in the collective, or individually.) Magic users are extremely common in 12A, and are grouped according to their magical abilities, with the strongest attending magical colleges and earning diplomas in their respective fields of magic. (The idea of The Related Worlds is not mine, it belongs to Diana Wynn Jones.)
Physical Profile: Five feet tall, plus change, and weighing in at about a hundred and ninety pounds, Malcom is what he would prefer to be referred to as "husky." He inherited his mother's Swedish blonde hair and bone structure, but his father's northern French dark complexion and eyes. Clothing-wise, he usually wears waistcoat over a button-down dress shirt and slacks.
Personality: Malcom is friendly and outgoing, in spite of, or perhaps due to, his secluded upbringing. Raised on a grand estate with very few people to talk to apart from his uncle, his rats, and a few servants, he is relishing the opportunity to interact with others in the world at large. That said, his lack of experience at social interaction does leave him a bit in the lurch when it comes to idiomatic expressions and euphemisms, so he can come across as socially awkward at times, especially when dealing with strangers and/or people to whom he feels attracted.
Biography: For as long as he can remember, Malcom has lived with his uncle on the man's large estate in the english countryside. His uncle, an enchanter (one of the ranks of magic-user on 12A) of some note, tought him the basic theory of magic, but Malcom simply seemed to not have the talent nor the patience for the craft, preferring instead to spend his days wandering the grounds and doodling in the little sketchbook he carried with him wherever he went. Malcom's uncle despaired of his nephew ever learning to perform any more than minor charms, which he considered a shame, as the boy's father had been something of a celebrity mage before his untimely death. But Malcom seemed to be nothing more than a perfectly ordinary, non-magical fifteen-year-old; until one of his drawings, an albino rat, crawled off of its page during a lesson. His uncle was overjoyed, and immediately the two tried to discern to what extent Malcom's magic functioned. It seemed that once he had drawn a creature and animated it, he could pull it from the Æther whenever he wished. Before they could learn much more, Malcom's uncle was called away to a war that had been brewing for some years. England had set up several colonies on the continent on the western shore of the Atlantic Ocean, called Atlantis, several decades prior, and the indiginous people were fighting back. So Malcom spent the final two years of his childhood alone on the vast grounds of the estate. Tiring of the solitude, Malcom left the only home he had ever known on the eve of his eighteenth birthday and prepared to set out and see the world. Unfortunately, a police chase between the magical authorities and a newly awakened planeswalker who had been using his powers to murder people in the nearby tiny village interfered with Malcom's plans. The 'walker, chased onto the train platform where Malcom happened to be waiting, grabbed the boy and planeswalked to World 12B. Confused and disoriented, left in this world of steel and glass by a godlike being with no concern for his safety, the teen wandered for some time before hearing about Arcanis and the academy.
