Most of the time you receive small amounts of gold and trash items. Sometimes you get clothes or decorations that can sell from 12g to 300g or more. You might end up with 30-40g from it. The trash items can be saved. Collect them. Eventually you can turn them into items and sell them, but then again, the items take a lot of trash to make and sell for very low prices. I usually give them away. You'll also gain a lot of tickets from this easily. Once I received 225g from one of the daily giveaways.
PMs
Send a PM to a friend or respond to one. The first PM you send each day gives you 30g. You have to wait about 30 seconds between each PM you send. You'll earn 6-11g for the next 2-4 PMs you send. After that you'll make 2 or 3g per PM.
Posting

Your first post of the day in any topic on Gaia gives you 50g. Afterwards, you'll begin making progressively lower gold as you post. For instance, you might get 18g for your second post then it drops to 14g, 11g, 10g, 13g, 7g, 4g, etc. After posting maybe 20 times, you'll only be earning 1-2g per post.
Polls
The first poll you vote in gives you 14g. Afterwards you'll gain random amounts like 5-10g. After about 6 polls you'll make much less from polls, like 1-2g.
Arenas

I prefer going to the avatar arena. Everything loads easily and quickly there. Your first vote'll give you anywhere from 5-10g or more. Your first comment on something in the arena gives you 40g. Afterwards you'll earn 3g or more from voting and 15g or so for comments. After maybe 10 votes and 10 comments you'll start making less gold from the arena until you make 1g per action. Eventually you may not make any gold.
Profile Comments
Commenting on your profile or someone elses will give you gold. The first comment should give you 13g or more. You'll earn 14g or so by commenting 4 times. Afterwards you'll make less and less like everything else.
After doing all this, you'll probably earn around 600-700g. To make more after this, it'll be tough. I'd suggest if you use a mule account, or a second username, you go on that to make the gold easily then trade it over.

Other Methods to Earning Gold
1) Visit the charity forum on Gaia at http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=28 - create a quest thread. Design it well. The more effort you put into it, the better the response. 2) Visit the minishops forum at http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=79 . Offer services to Gaia users for graphics if you can make banners, profiles, artwork, etc. Create your own price. Be fair though. You can earn tons of gold easily this way. You could earn 500g or more from banners, thousands for art, and anywhere from 3k-40k for profiles. Check out some of the forums and subforums there.
Easy Navigation
At the bottom of just about every screen on Gaia, you'll see 'Gaia A to Z', a list of links to various sections of Gaia. Towns, the worldmap, marketplace, your profile, etc. It's the fastest way to get around aside from saving links in your favorites list.
Profile Videos
Let's say you want to place a video from YouTube in your profile. It's easy. Copy the url code on the right of the video on YouTube. Then go to www.tektek.org and click Profile Theme/Video. Then click Profile Video. Paste in that code and then you'll be given a new code which can be placed in the multimedia section of your Gaia profile. The video should now work when people look at your profile.
Dream Avis
At www.tektek.org you'll find tons of features. You can create a dream avi. Basically make an avatar with items you're questing for or just mix and match to create a new look before you buy the items - just to make sure it looks good. You'll also find special text generators to make special font effects. You'll find profile themes for movies, games, anime and more too that you can use for your profile profile skin. Just check it out. New features are available all the time.
Begging
Don't beg. People hate that. It's not our responsibility to give you gold because you think it's hard to earn. How do you think everyone else makes gold? They earn it. So don't harass people in PM or annoy your friends to help you by donating. Earn it yourself. Make a charity topic. You shouldn't bother anyone for help until you've been here for a while and done some work. I'd recommend you have at least 600 posts or so. This way people know you're not just some scammer or beggar who's lazy. So rather than being insulted, called a n00b, or blocked by people, earn your gold first.
n00bs
Newbs (newbies) and n00bs are 2 different terms altogether. Don't confuse them. A newbie is a person who's new to Gaia. A newbie is learning how to do things. A n00b is an idiot. They're obnoxious, they can't spell, they cheat when they role play, they beg for gold, they try to scam people with sob stories and lies. Nobody likes n00bs. Here on Gaia, people will destroy you for being ignorant. n00bs use those 'txt tlk' abbreviations. If you type things like: u, bcuz, wat, r u, cant, im, wut, don8, n e 1, plz, kthxbai, etc. Type out the words. Prove you're not an idiot. Sure, everyone else you know might do txt tlk, but in most situations they're usually failures in school. It reflects in your schoolwork when you make ignorant decisions.
Tips
*NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD. NO MATTER WHAT. TRUST NO ONE. If you can't edit your profile, then ask someone to explain what to do. Never give them your personal info. Even if they don't steal from you, they can just come back like 4 months later when you totally forgot about them, and they'll 'hack' your account and steal everything you earned. TRUST NO ONE. You'll get robbed and Gaia might even ban you.
*If you're questing, don't donate. You might want to be nice or help out friends, but then you're ruining yourself. You'll end up wasting more time and the price of the items you want will go up. So save your gold. People lie to you on Gaia. They'll say they have too much homework and can't use Gaia. They'll say their grandma died. Don't believe them. They're lying to you. They're making sob stories so you feel sorry and donate. They are lying to you. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. If you want to donate and don't have anything to quest for, donate to someone in the charity section who earns it - someone who is putting effort into making gold and did a good job at creating a quest thread.
*Make sure you know what you're buying. Tons of people buy things after spending weeks to save up, then 2 days later they sell them and end up questing again and have to earn tons of gold all over. Make sure you really want the items before you buy them.
*Make sure to buy a trading pass and vending pass. That'll cost 1500g altogether. It's worth it though. Whenever you want to sell items for higher prices, like rare items, you'll need to use the marketplace. Always check the marketplace for good deals. People might be selling an item you want from stores at much lower prices.
