It's funny how times have changed with each generation. The one major change is how
kids see cartoons these days. Oops, I mean
anime *laughs*
Most kids these days see anime as the only art form. It's on T.V., DVD, online, toilet paper, on your underwear-everywhere ! It's like a visual marination of Japanese animated art. The sad part is that everything else to these fans is either "second rate" or worse-ignored. Heck, even the Esurance girl has fallen into this anime inspired trend. It's just one huge chuckwagon full of otakus (with no gravy).
I remembered the days when anime (and merchandising) wasn't as overblown as it is now. I bet that some of you out there has some bootlegged merchandise from China or Thailand and don't even know it. Discussions in forums these days are now nothing more than, "Sasuxnaru", "Bleach is better than Naruto", etc. Once the next big thing comes along, that fanbase disappears.
Last I remember, being called a "retard" was offensive. Is being called Narutard is a step above being a dork ?
Anime fans that are also artists ignore the basics of art just to grab these things:
- Tablet
- Copic markers
- Open Canvas/ Painter/ Photoshop
- How to Draw Anime books *definite cardinal sin*
Even western comics have fallen into this slump. That to me was a sad point in art. Too bad Crossgen comics went into bankruptcy.
Yes, I know it's funny to talk about anime art when my profile has that influence in it. It's time to change this layout anyhow.
P.S. If you know what the song "Turning Japanese" is really about, then you know the hidden joke about obsessed anime fans.
