A new study suggests that some of the Earth's warming may be due to the lack of starlight reaching the planet.
Ten years ago, a theory posited that when a far-away star explodes in the Milky Way, comic rays (high-speed atomic particles) go through our atmosphere, producting ions and free electrons. Released electrons accelerate formation of the sulfuric acid and water molecules, the building blocks of clouds. Cosmic rays would therefore increase Earth's cloud cover. This would reflect sunlight and keep the planet cooler. Beacuse the magnetic field of the sundoubled in intensity during the last hundred years, cloudiness has been reduced. This could be contributing to global warming.
Random fact: The more oxygen there is on the earth, the bigger the bugs are.
