Ok, yeah. I'm aware that no one reads my journal, but just in case some poor sap should happen to click on this page, know this: YOU MUST READ FEMALE CHAUVINIST PIGS!!!
It's this amazing book by Ariel Levy that details how feminism has been morphed into a contradictory mantra by women and that women are now turning themselves into sex symbols and calling it empowerment. But I'd do a crap job of explaining this book, so here's a section:
"We decided long ago that the Male Chauvinist Pig was an unenlightened rube, but the Female Chauvinist Pig (FCP) has risen to a kind of exalted status. She is post-feminist. She is funny. She gets it. She doesn't mind cartoonish stereotypes of female sexuality, and she doesn't mind a cartoonishlly macho response to them. The FCP asks: Why throw your boyfriend's Playboy in a freedom trash can when you could be partying at the Mansion? Why worry about disgusting or degrading when you could be giving-or getting- a lap dance yourself? Why try to beat them when you can join them?"
This book is amazing. It details how women seem to have broken down into two categories, both of which claim empowerment and liberation for women, but neither of which actually achieve it. There are the strippers, the women who feel they need to dress like whores and wear Playboy bunnies and Pornstar shirts, who feel that displaying this lavish sex interest is sexy and empowering; and there are the macho women who feel they need to say, "Check out that a**" and be "One of the boys." Either way, both types of women are giving up their femininity for a caricature and sham of the way things should be.
Personally, I'd rather be forced to be a housewife than either of those two choices.
