I twiddle with my fork, watching a piece of lettuce dance on the other end. It floats a little, then shivers and drops to the small pile of cheese gratings at the bottom of my plate, soggy with dressing.
"Ian gave you permission to go out for lunch, right?" I ask Adri. Not that he wouldn't, of course, after that impressive performance.
"Ian?" Blinking once, she looks at me. "Oh. You know, he had a new leaf in his hair again. It was so pretty, especially when the sun would reflect off of those beautiful locks..."
Her face has that dreamy expression again, and inwardly, I groan. Trust her to notice something like that. I should have known better than to mention him...>.<
"Forget that I asked." Waving my fork once more, I spear the unfortunate piece of lettuce and chew on it with vigor. However, I can't say the same for the person sitting across the table. Playing with one of the greener pieces of salad on her plate, she picks one up with her fingers.
"It looked kinda like this, you know."
Sigh.
"Really? I didn't know that he wore creamy salad dressing with pepper and radish juice in his hair. I suppose it would make a tasty morsel. You think they might be leftover's from his dinner last night?"
She glares at me, throwing the leaf across the table so that it hits my arm. Brushing it away, I ignore her.
"Where's Des, by the way?"
"I dunno. He did say he was gonna meet us here."
"Really? Did he say when he was gonna be here?"
"Yeah. Like now."
"Well, he isn't."
"Well, duty calls," says a voice beside us. We turn to see him slide into a seat.
"Fashionably late," I observe.
He shrugs, signaling for one of the waiters to bring a glass of water. I turn to my own, wiping off the little beads of condensation from the side.
"Anything interesting happen this morning?" Adri asks.
"Nah. Just a few explosions in the microwave when the cup noodles exploded. And a problem with the twinkies...and the tap wouldn't stop spewing when I turned on the faucet."
"Oh. That's not bad."
"Of course not. Except for the two gophers that managed to burrow into my office..."
"Blow 'em up."
"Use them as test subjects for our new blender at LO."
"They make better lamp fixtures."
Oh. o.o
"I'd better get back to the office. That parakeet that flew into the window yesterday needs another dose of alka-seltzer."
"Another dose? And you didn't even have lunch?" :C
"I had three cup noodles...or what was left of them, anyway. Come on."
"Trust him to burn things in the microwave." Adri looks amused, but we follow him, anyway. We still have a bit before the lunch break ends, anyway.
We trek up the frightening steep hill that leads to his lonesome office, gasping for breath. Arriving at the door, we collapse against the walls, resting for a bit.
"Hey, do you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"The elephant puffing to my right, ha ha."
"No, really. Don't you guys hear it?"
...Plop. Plop. Plunk.
"Yeah, I do."
"Sounds like a leaky puddle."
"A leaky puddle?"
"Yeah."
I decide to peek into the window beside me, only to be met with the strangest sight.
"Er, Des? Your office is flooded..."

=o What's gonna happen next?
Not as much humor this time. To follow the story line, I kept it a bit more serious. Hope you guys enjoy it! xD
