Drip...drop...plop.
Plop-plop.
Trickle.
Slosh-slosh.
Drip...drop...
Plop.
Plop.
==========
The very first thought that comes to me is that we must look very silly indeed.
Our situation? All three of us are pressed up against the small glass window, peering into the water level inside Des' office. Talk about flooded. The waterline nearly reaches the top of the windowpane, and every last bit of furniture seems to be rolling or floating or something in the mini-lake that was once an office.
"Eww...you still had that granola bar? That was from last halloween!"
"Oh. Musta disappeared. I thought I threw it away."
"Guk, look at that. A dead mouse."
"And that. There must be a billion ants all over that feather right there..."
"ANTS??? WHAT ANTS?!?"
"Inside, Adri. They won't hurt you."
"If we let out the water, it'll come pouring out and all the ants will come out too and then they'll swim over to our legs and climb up and bite us and then we'll be reduced to a pile of bones and..." She babbles on.
"Oh! What a great idea, Adri!" I exclaim, smiling sweetly. "Would you like to open the door?"
A look of pure horror is plastered on her face. Too bad she just happens to be standing near the door...Placing my hand on the handle, I get ready to yank it open...
o.o
"Erm, it's locked."
"Ah. I, uh, I knew that." C:
Adri glares at me, inching away. While Des unlocks the door, I contemplate the little trickle of water dripping from a crack by a hinge.
"You sure opening the door would be a good idea?"
"How else are we gonna clean this place up?!?"
Okay, then...I hold my breath as Des slowly opens the door...
Suddenly, an icy sensation sweeps over me. I have no time to utter anything before I am swept away by the tide. Tumbling down the hill, I experience a sinking feeling in my stomach from the thought of climbing back up the hill when I slam into a boulder, knocking the breath out of me.
"Oof!" I begin to peel myself off the foot of the hill when something bounces over me. "GAH!"
I scowl at the purple and yellow armchair that continues to bounce. Ugh.
Gack, gack, hack. I turn around to see Adri sputtering, lying on her stomach over what looks like a plank from the bookshelf. Books lay all around her, open, sopping wet, and torn.
Well, at least no one can try and burn them. =S
Both of us struggle up, turning to see Des stumbling down the slope a little more gracefully than us.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, I think so. And you guys?"
"I'm fine."
"I'd rather not say."
We all turn our gazes to the dripping furniture at our feet. As one, we look up to the office balanced at the summit of the hill, then turn back to the furniture where we stand. I groan inwardly.
"Must we carry all of this to the top of the hill?"
"It's all ugly furniture, anyway. This place makes a great dump, by the way."
"Hmm. New furniture would be nice..."
"And we could hire a truck to drive it all up!"
"So, then...shopping spree, anyone?" C:
