Gurgle gurgle. Tinkle tinkle.
Clank. Slurp.
Bite. Chew.
Slurp. Clank.
Tinkle. Clank. Gurgle.

I rest my chin in my hand, lightly stirring the ceramic cup of tea and milk with a metallic teaspoon. Tapping it gently on the lip of the cup, I place it down on the saucer. I sip lightly at the beverage, my eyes scanning the cafe.
The place? It's called Whispers. It's a cafe I started up awhile ago, and so far, it hasn't been too successful. I like it this way--it's beautiful and quiet. I get here just in time for the late morning brunchers to slip in for a bite or two.
Most of the time. >.>
I flick a glance at the clock, watching the needle slip to the 12:30 mark. Hmm. I did promise Adri I'd meet her at the Barton Boutique so we could go grab a bite of lunch somewhere else. While the food here is good (How could I say otherwise? I own this place) we're both looking for something different. And, preferrably, something different than yunsi's cooking.
Not that it's bad or anything. It's just...vaguely different. =S
I wait until my last customer has payed and left, then lock up the place, closing it early. At least, I think to myself as I briskly walk down the lanes of Barton Town, I know the way around here much better than the way back home.
Really! =o Pft. Why would it be the other way around?
As I approach the shop, I hear a rattle and a clatter, followed by a loud rumbling crash. Wincing, I look around, able to pinpoint the spot as the one and only Barton Boutique.
I sigh.
Here we go again.
Steeling myself with a deep breath, I push open the door. Immediately, I can hear the ruckus.
"You don't have samurai outfits here?!?"
"No! I'll tell you again, sir, we don't sell those--"
"How can you not? Samurai are only the coolest occupations to have around!"
"Okay, you listen here, boy.."
I watch on with curiousity. A young man with blue hair stands before the counter, arguing with Adri. Her voice is nearly a shriek now...
Note that I say nearly.
It would only take one person to come into the room to make it rise the last decibel...
"Adriel, what is going on?"
Ian comes in through the back door, frowning, as his cat Rufus saunters at his heels. Seeing me, Rufus bounds, dog-like, then stretches against my legs. Darn, and those were new purple stockings, too. However, I hardly have time to scratch behind those gray, furry ears before they flatten back in agony.
"IAN!!! This stupid oaf is trying to tell me what to do!" She points at him.
"I am not, I'm--" he argues back, angrily.
"Oh yes you are! Stop denying it!"
Whoa. o.o Talk about exaggeration. As she rants on, the young man sneaks out the door. Man, but I feel sorry for him.
"Err, Adri?"
She's on a different track, now. More of a "I love you so much, Ian! You saved me from that rude blue-haired man! Can you believe it? He tried to yell at me! But you came in and scared him away, and it's all better now...thank you thank you thank you!" track. @_________@
She has some how managed to say that all in one breath. Ian scaring that guy away? More like her. <.<
I tap my toe impatiently, hoping Adri's profession of love for the poor shopkeeper doesn't run too long. Her record's 3 hours and 46 minutes. Her shortest? 6 seconds.
Only because I stuffed Rufus in her mouth, or course. C: However, since that's not fair to poor Rufus, I shan't do it again.
"Adri," I cut in.
"...so brave, and so strong, and the way your hair sweeps over your eyes..."
"Adriel Everin..."
"...such a hero!"
"ADRIEL EVERIN." D<
"Oh, I can't ever tell you how much I love--"
"ADRI!!!!!" >.<
It's quiet. =o Wow.
"Erm, I think it's time for lunch."
o.o
"Really?"
"Yes."
"But I only had like five minutes and three seconds to tell Ian--"
"Nevermind." I drag her away, giving Ian a shaky smile. He looks a bit speechless. Like he always does. Adri never ceases to amaze him. How that girl can come up with so many compliments is beyond me. I'd be spewing crap halfway through.
Literally.
Leaving the stricken storekeeper behind, I manage to get her beyond that 15.5 foot radius at which she stops acting like Ian's magnet.
"So, what about lunch?"
==========
Thank you so much, Adri, for the inspiration! *huggles*
I managed to incorporate you, YYugi, although I don't know if you're too calm or not. xPP
Oops. Des hasn't become the odd-job man yet. Must visit the fun-loving soon, aye? xDD
