My Wonderland
~Chapter 1~
Were the buildings spontaneously growing around me? Or maybe the land is rising? No, I understand I am falling as these rows of windows speed past. That guy looked like he was working hard this evening. I wave nicely even though I lost contact a millisecond ago or something. I wonder how many flips I could have done from this height. I bet twenty but I’m horrible at that kind of estimation. Hmm, I could go for some cinnabon right…
Bones cracked and smashed against the soft organs within. A pretty face followed by a pretty skull met no mercy from the cold concrete. Quickly it was a crimson puddle. It seemed to keep flowing; staining the ground, staining his clothes, staining his cold pale skin which the life was escaping from. The blood crept like a serial killer in a horror movie; the minute one looked away it could be right behind you. It spread past the awkwardly twisted leg which bent the other way. In exaggeration, the blood was now a lake.
Opera, the channel changed and the volume turned down. Alice looked to his left, “The ‘My Death Show’ is kind disturbing.”
A voice in the shadows spoke back. “It’s not real you know. My friend Dean saw himself hit by a speeding bus full of Rastafarians and got so paranoid that he hung himself.”
Alice blinked for a moment and a row of sharp white teeth appeared. “Gets great ratings you know.”
“Falling from a skyscraper…” Alice’s thoughts seemed to be back on a different subject. “…it’s like going to the hammer instead of it coming to you.” Alice pictured his body falling on the blunt head of an iron hammer. He ran a hand through his short bleached hair which lay flat and had a slightly messy touch.
Two cat eyes appeared above the gleaming smile; one was normal, the other had an inversion of the regular color.
“You aren’t walking around nude again, are you?” The teen questioned the talking mouth. The cat’s raspy voice gave a mischievous laugh which made Alice raise a brow. The boy darted forward at the floating head with arms extended. The cat gave a surprise meow as hands pressed against an unseen stomach.
“I feel fur! Put some pants on Chess!”
Purple fur appeared and faded into view from the tip of his ears and traveling down his neck to fill out the shoulder. Alice waved a frantic hand and looked away. “’Put pants on!’ I said! ‘Before you reappear!’”
Chess laughed and slipped on a dark pair of shorts just as his body was materializing at the waist. A lithe, flicking, tail filled out into the dimly lit room. A black leather bracelet was tied near the end of the tail by a crossing shoe lace; Chess rarely took it off. Next to come on was the unique jacket he favored so much. It seemed like a regular light hoodie made from polyester. As a paw zipped it up past the cross symbol, Alice was leisurely putting his boots on without much bother to untie and tie them again; instead, he used lazy force to get them both on and off. The collar of Chess’ jacket very much resembled that of a clergy shirt; a white band was at mid-length of the long sleeves. Chess attached a chain to his pants and donned a ring on his right index finger. Alice was wearing his pants with the white fluffy fur on the trim. Arm warmers which matched those pants decorated him as well. He pulled on his sleeveless coat over a white tank top. It was fastened by a zipper and three unnecessary buckles. A few red circles were emblazoned on its shoulders and lower flaps. On Alice’s right flap were rows of overlapped metal sheets. The teen put on an aviator cap with flashy goggles for show too.
“Why don’t you ever put those to use and wear them over your eyes like they are meant for?” The cat’s curiosity spoke out.
“I bought them, I own them; therefore, the goggles are my slave and my b***h. Their purpose is totally decided by me, their master. “Alice turned around and faced Chess while the goggles were being worn over his eyes. He pointed to them and stuck out his tongue. “Besides, they make me look like a bug when I wear them like this.”
Chess laughed and picked up a board in the corner. The object resembled something between a skateboard and a snowboard. It wasn’t as long as a snowboard but it also possessed no wheels.
The lights wavered a bit. It gave a dull illumination to the room’s contents of wires, pipes, and the few pieces of furniture. One side of the room was distinctly messier than the other.
“We should do something about that.” Alex looked back as his fingers wrapped about the cold door knob.
“I’ll clean it, I promise.” Chess pleaded.
“No, I mean the lights; we need more power.” Alice opened the door.
“Oh, well that’s no problem.” The cat flipped a switch on the side of the board and its underside emitted ultra-violet light. He tossed the board out the door and it would hover in mid-air. Chess leapt onto it and Alice followed suit. The cat had great balance on keeping on the thing while Alice embraced the feline around waist to hold on even though his boots also had a magnetic function to attach to the board.
