Special Report: Black Monday: The Gaia Market Crash
Date: August 14th, 2006
Inspired by Natsu-ko of GCD. xd
So in a matter of a few hours citizens of Gaia have fallen to their knees as a crippling economy tried once again to stand on it's feet only to fall flat on it's face once again. The economy as we once knew it to be back in 2003 and 2004, and heck, even late 2005 - As we know it has become non-existant. The prices are rising the desire to donate to people's quests have become less and less frequent as of lately due to the inflation of just about everything non-store related. It's highly sad how quickly everything began to fail...
Today Gaia released Daily Chance, something that looked like it would be worthwhile, turned out to be the exact opposite in terms of what it provided the users. Daily Chance gave out hordes of Rare Items, mostly consisting of Fish, into the Marketplace. And while I agree with it being released to the extent of lower prices on many different things... I think people are taking all of this harder than they should be. Inflation is bad and needed a way to be dealt with, I only hope this dosen't cause a Rollback.
Rollback's have their ups and downs but right now many people have been affected from the economy being frozen - Yes, the Admins disabled the Marketplace, and Gold Earn... I sit here right now at a maximum gold count of 53872 and it's been there for about a half an hour now. People in GCD and Q&A are bitching about how it's unfair to many people. Sure, it's Unfair, but it's also Fair to so many others, you aren't the only one affected which is why it's both good and bad... So as it stands right now you should keep your mouth shut until they tweek it to be suitable for all users.
So as it stands, this is what is currently going on:
- Gaia's Daily Chance was released at: Mon Aug 14, 2006 7:09 pm.
- It was a bit buggy at first.
- People got Test Items and Rare Bugs and Fish through the DC system.
- They underpriced everything in the Market, curbing inflation and making more gold become distributed into Gaia's userbase.
It's currently 8:57pm EST, a little over 2 hours since it was released, and this is what has happened with the problems:
- Marketplace was disabled first.
- Gold count was disabled next.
- Items are supposedly being taken out of people's inventories, mostly Test items and Rare fish I believe (Rumored).
So as it stands right now, I think this might Warrant a Rollback, I just hope that if there is a Rollback the Fish remain to be something that is released almost every 5 minutes per a user... And then placed on the Marker for reduced prices. I really like how many Candy Stripers got released today at around 100k each, that is a Rare mask and deserves it's place on Gaia. In the same respect, it should be something everyone has an equal oppertunity to acquire in the event they want it. All in all, Gaia;s economy has crashed, and we are the ones to suffer the consequences over someone elses mistakes. While a Rollback may be inevitable, I only hope that everything we have done so far to curb inflation wasn't done in vain.
