'I'll do graffiti if you sing to me in French,
What are we doing here if romance isn't dead?
Mind your mouth as you walk with me,
Take care (ooh) as you cross the street,'
Nothing like the wise words of MAXĂMO PARK to open a journal entry, eh?
The end of the 125th year of my school's existence has passed and now it's time for change. They're demolishing the school hall this summer, to be replaced with a two storey building - downstairs will be a 'state of the art' dining room with 4 different styles of seating areas and upstairs will be the new hall. They're replacing the hall that's been there for what seems like as long as I can remember. I can't believe it. Sure it was crappy - there wasn't enough space to fit the whole school in, backstage was too small and it was a mess all the time but still...! They can't get rid of it! sad
The school website sells it so much better:
'Work on the new Hall and Dining Room begins on 17 July. This will be a elegant, contemporary two-storey building with excellent facilities. The dining area on the ground floor will be more like a restaurant than a school dining room, with a servery offering pupils and staff a range of options. The design also allows the area to be used as a teaching space equipped with an interactive board, as well as a recreational space for older girls.
The Hall above will be a superb performance area with a new stage, Green Room and Control Room and seating for almost 500.'
So many of my school memories are in that hall. My first assembly. 7 (cramped) Barnardo's Days. Several performances from the infamous Staff Band. All manner of assemblies - boring and hilarious. Sliding around on the perma-slippery floor in our tights. Hiding at the back during compulsory dance lessons. Fitting 8 people under the tiny stairs up to the stage.
And so much more!
And it doesn't help that I now want to
buy a slab of it.What are we doing here if romance isn't dead?
Mind your mouth as you walk with me,
Take care (ooh) as you cross the street,'

SRSLY.
Some of the sixth formers had the fried gold idea of graffiting the walls on the last day of term. We reluctantly accepted.
FOSRSLY, I do want to buy a slab. There's some absolutely hilarious graffiti up there. Sadly my resizing means you won't be able to read it. But that does avoid any ****** stalking the people who'd written their full name. They should sell them, like they did with parts of the Berlin Wall. Only museums won't buy this.
So I spent most of my lunch break with a borrowed ( ninja ) board pen tagging my name, 'U4 '06 forever' (U4 being my school year), some weird jokes, and, of course, The Rock And Roll Pirate:
My school is actually so stingy that they are going to sell the doors and flooring. I mean, come on! How much are they going to get for some old doors and paint-covered floors? Plus, it meant they wiped away what I'd written on all the doors!
Obviously, the floor said, in many places: 'OMG it's the floor!' as I'm sure you figured.
Luckily they didn't wipe the chair which said: 'OMG it's a chair!'. But that doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?
Poor old hall.
Cut down in it's prime.
Ish.
LAWL.
