It's where I hide my art
Lecenae's Origins
"With the tales of legendary heroes and villains, it's easy to lose track of the small details. The in-between of each story. I'm here to clear that line. To let all of you know who I am."

In the book Prose Edda there is a tale about the three children of Loki, the god of Mischief and Angrbooa, the giantess. There was the Eldest, Fenrir. He was known as the Great Wolf. The middle child, Jörmungandr. He was known as the Midgard Serpent or the World Serpent. And the youngest of the three was the sister known as Hel. She was known as Goddess of the Underworld.

In these stories, the Gods had grown to fear Loki's children. So in turn they banished them to three separate areas. Fenrir was locked up in Asgard, so that they may watch him with careful eyes. The Gods grew unsettled by each passing day as Fenrir grew in size. Eventually, they tried to bound him to the ground so he would contained. After many unsuccessful attempts with heavy chains, the Gods opted for magical means. Goading Fenrir into challenging his strength to break his bounds once more, with the added bonus of the God Tyr placing his right hand in Fenrir's mouth in case he should be bound. Accepting the challenge of the Gods, Fenrir allowed the magical rope to wrap around him and when he was unable to free himself, he ripped Tyr's hand off in an instant. In mere moment, Fenir was gagged with a sword, and plunged an mile in the Earth with two large boulders named Thviti and Gjoll. He would remain there until Ragnarok, to be the one to slay the Allfather, Odin.

The youngest, Hel, was cast down to Nifilheim, a realm for the dishonored dead or those who died of sickness or old age. Half of her face was fair and beauty, like her father's. The other was ugly and misshapen like her mother's. From her waist up, she was alive and pink. Before though, she was dead and rotting. Eljudnir was the name of her hall that she had created within her time in Nifilheim. She had two servants named Ganglati and Ganglot. Their names meant 'tardy', and they lived up to it as they were very slow that no one could ever tell if they were moving. She had a habit of naming her possessions names such as her plate, Hunger. Her knife, Famine. She would remain there until Ragnarok, to summon her vast armies of the dead upon the twilight of the Gods.

In the moment of the Gods' kidnapping of Loki's middle child, Jörmungandr, was cast into the waters that surrounded Midgard. There he turned into a serpent and grew large enough to swallow large whales and be able to wrap around the world and bite his tail. It wasn't clear as if why these two were at such odds but Jörmungandr had managed to become an rival to the Thunder God, Thor. Three times the duo would meet. The first encounter was when Thor had traveled to the land of giants, Jotunheim. In the great hall of Utgard, the master, who had also been named Utgard placed the travelers to many tests. One note-worthy task was Utgard asking for Thor to pick up his cat. Even with all of Thor's strength, he was only able to lift the cat's paw off of the ground before he admitted his defeat. This was later to be found out that the 'Cat' was Jörmungandr in disguise. And thus, a bitter rivalry between the Thunder God and the World Serpent began. Thor though eventually returned the humiliation by using the head of a bull that belonged to the giant Hymir. Jörmungandr took the bait and bit into the bull's head, only to be dragged out of the water by Thor where he towered over the boat Hymir and Thor were using. Grabbing his legendary hammer, Mjollnir, Thor threw his hammer with all his might at Jörmungandr's head. Hymir, in fear of the World Serpent, cut the line before Mjollnir had connected with Jörmungandr's head. The World Serpent sank back into the water, unscathed. Thor was left with a bitterness in his heart that he had missed his mark but it was only a matter of time. Jörmungandr would remain in the Sea of Midgard until Ragnarok, to face Thor the God of Thunder in combat. His destiny was to slay Thor but only after being killed.

"Now with the history lessons out of the way. Jörmungandr had mated once in his life-time. He found a large powerful dragon, her size was equal to a range of mountains. Her name was unknown and so were her intentions. The two mated and separated, never to meet each other again. It was always very unclear as why the two mingled with so little time, but I suppose that's history.

Little did Jörmungandr know but the dragon had kept a one secret from him. For the next nine months, she bore his child but in an human form. A tall and beautiful woman with black hair as the midnight sky. You can imagine the rest. A small infant child was born, created from serpent, dragon, and human. Raised in secret and unknown to the rest of the world.

The infant eventually grew up, raised as a common human, who happened to live in caves. The mother spent all of her time as a human and even acting like one. The child watched as the scorching inferno of life had dimmed down to a gentle harmless candle light. For all of her life, the child was safe and happy. Did not have a care in the world for gods, giants, or even the end of the world. But as we all know, such ignorance can't be ignored by Fate.

As with the inferno that became a candle, the raindrop became a storm. In just an instant, the child watched as the only thing in their life was snuffed out. Word had spread of a dragon who lived in the mountains. After several failed attempts from the lowly humans...They came. A group of heavily armed mercenaries. Trained and prepared to slay mythical creatures of the world.

The mother tucking the child away, safe and deep inside the mountain-side. With her last moments of life, she said her goodbyes and disappeared in the direction of the hunters. There was no epic clash of steel and fire and blood. There was no honor in any death. The only thing there was was unbridled hate for humans. The mother, rather than fighting and destroying her home, offered her life freely. The hunters had no qualms against this. At least, the women with them didn't. The men did unspeakable things to the mother, only to be echoed through-out the entirety of the mountain. It was only after so long that they ended her life and left, preparing to collect the hefty bound placed on her head.

Years passed after that fateful day. The child had grown up to be an adult, inhibiting all the traits of it's heritage. Always cunning like a serpent, wise and powerful like a dragon, and especially cruel and cold-hearted like humans.
The child's only goal in life was to some-how make humans pay for their actions. There are many ways to go about revenge on a large scale but most of them don't start with a dying dragon."
