Apparently, offering a nice piece of advice at work was a bad idea on Friday.
I was brought into the second massage room (with soundproof walls) by my boss and was asked if I had said anything offensive to anyone on Friday. To my shock, I shook my head with a no and said "Not ever here. When I am stressed and no one is around I mutter something to myself but never out loud for all to hear."
Later, I was told what had really happened.
I had offered advice to our new cosmotologist. She is fresh out of beauty school, mother of three boys. I was dry mopping the floor of the snow tracks and merely gave her a nice tip to always take the mop from the vitamins depart and just do a quick sweep around the store if there were no customers in our area. I never said it rudely, never said it was her job, just a nice piece of advice.
Apparently she had flipped out in front of my two coworkers that "I'm a licensed cosmotologist and I don't mop!"
She also then stated that I needed to "shut my f---ing mouth on the floor."
One of my coworkers was very upset at this, and the fact that a mere piece of advice showed her true colors. He went on his lunch and spoke with our manager in private on it. Our manager came out a while later as our licensed cosmotologist was still being herself and was handed the mop and told to never have an attitude like that. She then told her "Go mop. Everyone does it. And we all appreciate it when you just up and do it."
I feel horrible, but at the same time, it has given everyone the perspective that she may not last long. I have noticed her talking of "other plans" by about summer time. And yes, those plans mean a potential leaving the salon.
Me on the other hand, I have taken the fact that I have a job that starts out in a good spot to high regard. It fulfills my need to help people with skin and makeup and educates me on the products we offer, which is important when working in a salon.
Now that I have written this and gotten if off my shoulders, it is time to get ready for work.
Until next time...
