Today, I started my journey to be the Champion. Once I found Oak, he gave me the choice of three pokemon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. I chose lovable little turtle and named him, "Maturin," after the turtle that holds the world on his back.
After easily defeating Gary, I trotted up to Viridian City and received Oak's Parcel. Frustrated, I returned to Pallet Town and gave it to him. My rival and I received a Pokedex and 5 Poke Balls each. Sweet, now I can catch pokemon!
I trudged through the Route 1 grass, excited about the mysterious pokemon that lay within. Suddenly, a Wild Rattata appeared! After two Tackles courtesy of Maturin, the purple rodent was mine. Emwor the Rattata joined the team!
Thrilled about my new pokemon and noticing that Maturin was quite a few levels ahead, I decided to train Emwor in the Route 1 grass after healing him at the Poke Center. The first few battles were a little nerve-wracking and I had to go back and forth between the Centre and the grass a few times. But then... I got cocky...
Emwor was faced with a Rattata of the same level and I assumed he could take at least two more hits from the foe. The wild pokemon only needed one more hit, but evidentally so did Emwor. Underestimating the foe, Emwor missed the final hit, and the wild Rattata took this as an opportunity to strike.
In a purple blur, the enemy tackled Emwor, and a sickening snap rang through the air as my new friend slammed against a rock and lie still. Emwor was no more...
Stunned and angry with myself, I prepared a grave for my fallen comrade.
I'm sorry... I promise to be more careful...
