Days on Destiny: 22
Even I...

Rachel opened her eyes to find the familiar ceiling of the makeshift infirmary. She groaned, sitting up. TJ was there in a split second, helping with a guiding hand on the small of her back. Rachel ran a hand over her face as she muttered, "It's cold."

"You have a pretty high fever," TJ informed her, pressing a cup into her hand.

Rachel took a sip, only enough to sooth a bit of her raw throat. "Who brought me here? Everett?"

"Rush, with a bit of help from Scott." TJ chuckled at the disbelief on Rachel's face. "Rush had sat you up against his chest as he tried to get you to respond and you only clung to his shirt, never loosening your grip. It took a while before I could get you free of his shirt."

"Aw." Rachel refused the watery slop being pushed into her hands. Rachel shook her head in distaste. "I want to go back to my room."

"I want to keep you here for another night just in case-"

Rachel's heart sank as she muttered, "Please, TJ. I just have a fever."

TJ sighed before nodding. "Fine, but I'm going to have the scientist check on you every now and then. And I don't want you getting out of bed till I come by and say so."

Rachel nodded, breathing out of relief. "Thank you, TJ."

TJ smiled gently, adding, "Sides, Young should be coming by within a few minutes. I'll have him escort you to your room."

Rachel moaned to TJ's gentle humor. Rachel couldn't help but match the smile on the medic's lips. "Everett? Seriously? I'd rather deal with Nicholas than him."

"Sadly you have to deal with me," a voice stated, footsteps Rachel had missed placing the talker to her right. Rachel looked up with a weak smile at the Colonel. "You sure about this, TJ?"

"She has a fever but, as long as the scientists check in when I can't, she should be fine."

Rachel rubbed at her tired face, lifting her head when Everett gripped her arm gently as a way of support. Rachel got off the bed without even hearing any of the conversation and was startled when the door to her room opened before her. She didn't even remember leaving the infirmary.

Everett sat Rachel on her bed and, as he turned to close the door, she fell sideways with a plop onto her mattress. She yawned, muttering, "Bedtime yet?"

Everett chuckled, the door sliding closed. "You have to eat something first."

Rachel flicked a wrist and her trunk opened. "There's thermoses near the far left. Grab a blue one."

Rachel pushed herself up and took the offered cup of broth. She downed it quickly and offered her cup for seconds. The broth was warm and felt good. She was grateful, though, when Everett forced her to lay back down. Without much more instruction, Rachel clambered under her own covers and passed out before she was fully covered.
