I've started my Pokemon adventure time and time and time again, and here I am... starting it yet again.
I find myself in this town called "New Bark." Everyone is a moron, but their heart is in the right place. I see some shady red-headed kid staring intently into Professor Elm's window, but ignore him. I go inside and Prof. Elm tells me to choose a Pokemon and retrieve something from an old friend named Mr. Pokemon. I wonder what kind of dealings that man must have got himself involved with to hide his real name. No worries, maybe if I stay ignorant, I won't get caught up in his mess.
I decide to go with Cyndaquill, a little doll whose got a face that's as cute as a button but has a firey attitude. As we were leaving town, the village clown, Ethan, thinks he can show me how to catch a Pokemon. I humor him and get 5 free PokeBall. Cyndaquill is pretty tough for one so small, she knocks down those Pidgey and Sentret like they're shot glasses in a drunk man's hands.
Once we're in Cherrygrove we meet some old guy who shows me around the place and gives me a pair of running shoes. Honey, these boots were made for walkin' and walkin's what they'll do. I graciously accept his gift, but running shoes are for a fast-paced world. I like the serenity of the town and want to take it in slowly.
Cyndaquill and I head towards Mr. Pokemon's house when we're stopped by that old guy again. He gives me a map of the entire Johto region. Helpful guy, but sometimes he seems crazier than a cat marching in front of a line of starving dogs. I say my thanks and slowly inch away. I see a house in the distance and think nothing of it. I keep walking. Some guy steps out of the house and gives me a box to keep Apricorns in. "Uh, thanks guy," I say. I never ask for things but people just give 'em to me. I should't be complainin', some people never get this kind of generosity and end up angry with the world for the rest of their lives.
I meet up with Mr. Pokemon and he gives me an egg to give to Prof. Elm. I came all this way for something the Prof. could've gotten at the local market. Turns out that it's some sort of special, mysterious Pokemon egg. Only Prof. Elm has the expertise to know what kind of egg it is. Mr. Pokemon lets my Cyndaquill rest up and regain her health as his friend from Kanto, Professor Oak asks me to do him a favor. "Sure, why not help a pal of Prof. Elm?" I say. He gives me a PokeDex and tells me to complete it as I journey through Johto. Once Cyndaquill is all rested, we head out back to New Bark.
I get a call from Prof. Elm. Some punk thinks it's a good idea to ransack a professor's home and lab. Kids these days, a bunch of good-fer-nothin's. I let him know we'll be on the way. Cyndaquill and I race back home. I guess those running shoes weren't such a bad idea after all. Just as we we reach the Cherrygrove town limit, I bump into that red-headed kid again.
This kid has the nerve to call me weak and challenge me to a Pokemon battle. I should've decked him and said, "Here's your Pokemon battle, ya little fart!" Instead, Cyndaquill launches herself towards his Totodile. She messes his Pokemon real good, I almost feel sorry for 'im. It's not his fault that his trainer is a total snot. The punk runs away and I see that he's dropped his card. I pick it up and barely have a chance to read the name when he comes back and claws it out of my hands, that little jerk.
"Yeah, you keep runnin'!" I shout as I watch him run into Cherrygrove. I'll see that sucker again and the next time I do, I'll wipe that stupid look off his stupid face. Finally I reach Prof. Elm's lab. The place is a mess and this hick town's poor excuse of a cop tries to interrogate me. Ethan runs in to maintain my innocence saying he saw some red-haired boy, all while contaminating the crime scene with his dirty shoes. Way to go, dummy. I didn't need his help to prove my innocence. I tell the cop that I saw this red-headed kid go through Cherrygrove and that I saw his Pokemon Trainer's Card. The name read: S-Prime. The cop thanks me for the information and leaves. I roll my eyes. First they accuse me and all of a sudden we're buddy-buddy because of some unsubstantiated eyewitness account from clown-boy.
I give Prof. Elm the egg and tell him about this favor Prof. Oak asked me to do. Elm says that he knew I was special and I was meant for greatness. "Aw shucks, Prof! I'm just a small-time girl in a big-time world," I say. He tells me that completing the PokeDex is a monumental task that can take ages to complete. Darn me, I should've known what I was getting myself into when I signed up for this. Oh well, I already gave my word to help out that old coot so I'd better do it as best as I can.
Before I leave town, I go home to say my goodbyes and let my mother know that I'm going off on a journey, one that could last for years. She understands and offers to hold some money for me. "Sure thing, Ma," I say, I want her to feel like she'll still be a part of my life after this begins.
I go back Cherrygrove and catch some other Pokemon on the way: Sentret, Pidgey, and Caterpie. Cyndaquill seems pretty happy to have some new friends. As my Pokemon are going through their daily check-ups in the Pokemon Center, I notice on the map that Violet City isn't too far away from here. Once the doc says they're good to go, I pack my bags and we're on our way to expore a new place.
For a big-name city, it sure is rural, but nice and homely. Outside of town, I catch some more Pokemon: Bellsprout, Rattata, Mareep, and Hoppip. I know there's a Pokemon League Gym in this city as well as a tourist-trap called Bellsprout Tower. It's time I start deciding on my team line-up before challenging Mr. Big Violet City Gym Leader.
Once I got my line-up settled and leveled, I thought that we should take some time to explore Bellsprout Tower. My Pokemon and I could use a break from levelin'.
TO BE CONTINUED...?
Current Line-Up:
Note: Kara, the name I chose for "myself" is an homage to Power Girl, Kara Zor-L and S-Prime is suposed to be "Superboy Prime." I couldn't think of any good "rival" names.
