Welcome to my world...
Empty Skys and Last Laughs
He pulled a lock of hair from her vision. She gave him a crooked smile, but he couldn't bring himself to return the glance. She took a shaky breath and looked up at the sky. He held his head up, letting the sun fall over his face. He could feel the blood trickling down her lips, and in a quick second his gaze was once again with her.
"Why?" He whispered into the breeze.
"Perhaps life is a limitation, and death is the real freedom." She coughed out.
He fell next to her, his arms refusing to hold him up anymore. The empty sky mocked him as he refused to believe she was being set free. She found his shaking hand. Fear pounded through his veins into hers. The pain finally broke through her last remaining wall, and she yelped in a bloody spasm.
"Please, stay with me a little longer." He yelled.
She froze, and flopped back onto the grass. He knew. He knew why she had asked to come here.
This was where she wanted to die.
Like a dog in the woods.
"I can't," she whispered, her words flowing down in a bloody line stretching to her neck, "I can't hold on anymore. Its pulling me. I can feel it."
He turned to her, pulling harder then ever. He begged everything he believed in, and prayed to things he didn't. Tears fell like rainbows, onto the ground. His hand trailed up her face, her eyes holding him in a floating eternity. Time had turned against the both of them. It was a war they both knew they were going to lose, and yet they had fought. He felt her breathing, he felt her pain. But above all he felt the emptiness all around them. Like the darkness outside the boundaries of a flashlight. And he simply couldn't stand it.
"Its time for me to close my eyes." She whispered to him.
"Just a little longer?" He cried.
"This isn't goodbye," She smiled, her voice cracking and bubbling, "its just a 'see you later'."
He laughed, a screaming, breaking, terrified laugh.
And then she closed her eyes.
"See you later." She whispered through another wave of blood.
"I love you!" He cried.
She smiled and squeezed his hand.
"I know," She smiled.
And then, with the grace of the falling leaves, of the river breeze, the blades of grass, and of two lovers in there last earthly moment, she died.
